Hi there,
I had my Roberts road bike stolen on Saturday 13th from outside Swiss Cottage library at 2pm. I don't know what I was thinking but I only used a cable lock to secure it, leaving the d-lock I normally always use at home.
Here's a description of the bike. Sadly I don't have any photos, but I should be getting some soon from the original owner, along with the frame number.
Steel frame, size 54cm, red paint with white roberts decals. R logo embossed on the top of the forks and seat stays.
Black Chris king Threaded headset
Ritchey drop bars with cannondale own brand stem, tektro brake levers, white and blue bar tape. Cross top lever on right as well.
Shimano 600 cranks, rx100 downtube levers, front mech and rear mech. 12 speed.
Campagnolo wheels with continental 4 seasons tyres.
White fizik arione saddle on black seatpost.
Unbranded front brake with ashima brake pads, weinmann rear brake.
Truvativ flat pedals.Any advice for trying to locate it? I've reported it to the police and just sent an email now to the cycle task force, and I'm checking ebay and gumtree, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Please pm me if you happen to come across it.
Thanks

My bike is now home, recovering from its ordeal. I for one am somewhat undeservingly lucky to get it back.
I was stupid enough to leave my bike unlocked outside a Chinese takeaway, whilst I was inside ordering food. It was leant up against the shop window, in full view, with me metres away (albeit indoors).
I then saw some guy make a grab for it...by the time I was able to react and get out the door, he was halfway down the street, and me making chase in SPD shoes was pretty futile. So as you can read, there were no damaged locks, just a careless eejit.
A few days later, the bike was spotted for sale in a bike shop in Queensway, and the police were called. Long story short, the bike was seized by the police so they can do their business. The bike shop didn't dispute ownership of the bike (I guess they admitted they should have done more to authenticate the owner), so I was able to collect it today.
I'm totally shocked, but obviously over the moon to get it back. I do feel guilty given that there are others who have had their pride and joy taken away under different circumstances, never to see it again.
Not much more to say apart from thanks again to Howard.
If anyone wants any specific information, do get in touch.
What bike shop? Name and shame please

Queensway bike shop
If I'm right, it's a mega-dodgy outfit at the top of Queensway.
http://goo.gl/maps/ijKIU - where the Home Store used to be.
(It's the only bike shop in that particular area - minus the Evans)I have been too scared to even look in but might make it my job to report anything appearing in the window there that looks suss.

^ That's the one mands. We walked by on the weekend and it's still open, so likely a good first point of call for people who have bikes go missing from the area.

Bad news! These are rare as Hen's teeth (molar's, not canines). When mine was nicked the guy on the market stall they tried to sell it to said it was too distinctive and he wouldn't touch it. I feel your pain. Hope you get it back.
Oh, and by the way, if anyone had a red Vitesse nicked in Tulse hill the other day, I sent the mounted (bike) police after the guy I saw struggling with the spd's and then giving up and running down the road with it. He was heading down to Herne hill, may have actually made it by now (it was sometime last week)

I hope I would never have to post up in this thread, but sadly my beloved road bike was stolen this weekend from what I thought was a secure bike lock up at my flat. It was stolen from SE1 3PF on Friday night between 4am and 9am.
It's a Trek Madone 5.5, mostly standard apart from FSA carbon wing bars, a Charge saddle (not the purple one in the photo) and Dura-Ace wheels. I think it also has two carbon bottle cages on it, certainly one. The stem is also dropped a little further on the steerer than the photo shows. I have my suspicions that the bike was actually partially dismantled for it to be taken out of the look up.
The theives were unable to steal the rear wheel (for reasons unknown, seeing as they cut through everything else), so I am not sure what wheel will be on the bike at the moment (if any).
If anyone hears anything, please let me know. Absolutely gutted.

You may want to check out the shoddy outfit on Queensway mentioned on the previous page. Give it a few days.
Will keep my eye out.

That's pretty distinct, will keep an eye out (based in W10).

Yup, looks like a couple of guys running a cycle specific charity-esque (i.e. disorganisued/used stock - not for charity) shop (with luggage in the other half of the 'shop'). Haven't ever seen anything in there that looks anything decent, though you do always wonder where they get their supply from.

Thanks Howard, i went into the place on Queensway yesterday at 5ish - the guy there looked terrified - like i was police. they had around 20 bikes, none worth more than £150-200.
i have a very good idea who stole my bike. i was followed into natwest by two guys - an old fucked-up wheezing irish roadie type and a younger guy who i'd say was 30 - irish too - he wore a bandana tied around his wrist, black jeans, black t-shirt. i'd sat down to wait for my appointment when they walked in and saw me, started acting shifty and sat down on the seats next to me. when i went through to see the manager the younger guy went outside. the conversation they'd been having before was so stilted and weird i put it down to them being hammered. but see now they were trying hard to be natural. after 45 min my meeting ended and my bike was gone. that's my story.

The police have a fair idea where they get their 'supply' from.

apologies if that was mentioned before, but how was it locked?

https://www.gov.uk/request-cctv-footage-of-yourself
So you should be able to get access to footage to see the bits before, during locking, walking into bank, suspects walking into bank, sitting & near you, when you came out.
Then the bit missing is the outside while your bike was being nicked, and that's the bit the police would have.

it was locked using a Abus Centuro cable around the toptube to a black bikepark - the left locking place in this streetview.

hello people (i'm new here)
I had this bike stolen outside Christ Church Spitalfields on the corner of Commercial Road and Fournier St in Shoreditch a week ago (Tuesday 9th April). it's not actually a single speed - it has 3 gears in the hub (I don't understand the mechanics of this but hey), but the casual bike thief might sell it as a single speed just because it looks like one. the wheels would be mismatched because they took the frame and the back wheel. it's a 2011 Cooper Zandvoort, 52cm, dark grey, with a Brooks saddle. if anyone sees it or its parts at a market or on bikeshd/gumtree/ebay, let me know! :)

Sons of bitches. Broad daylight, mega busy street. It's an awesome bike. I mean, every theft is a bad situation, but when it's in mah hood(!!!) it hits a bit harder.
I am in the habit of popping into my locals shops for 5 min and doing the min security thing but I just got to remember to be vigilant.
I'll def keep an eye out. -

I think most/all cashpoints have a camera facing outwards (for card fraud etc) that may have footage of the theft or the guys eyeing it up

**FOUND **
Hello, found this three speed just off caledonian road on carnoustie drive. Some kids were throwing it around and vie rescued it. I know its a long shot and not worth much, but I'm sure its worth something to someone. Here are a couple of pictures, its got bent forks too. Maybe it belongs to a student at CSM.. Is it worth handing it to the police??
Thanks

I am in North London, will kekep an eye for you. Good description, should be easy to spot.
Hi im new to this site, hope to build an SS from a retro frame/bike, anyway,Ive just been on another site, mid last year a poster threw some pics up of a Raleigh special he had aquired, he was after some ID dor it , it appears it was made 1996 for a road racer, he went for a ride at some time locked it with another bike to some railings in the Blackpool area, it got knicked, fellow forum members said they would keep an eye out for it, and spotted it earlier this month on e bay , it seems that another member of that forum had bought it from a bike shop, and then put it up for sale on ebay, when he learned of the theft he removed it from ebay, and they are now trying to sort it out, the cops are being involved, I suppose the original owner is happy he may/willl get his bike back at some time, the other bloke is not happy he may be out of pocket . dont know about the bike shop owner , but he could be out of pocket aswell, dont know how it will turn out, who actually owns it now ? I suppose that if serial number had of been reg/d with the cops it may have have helped, Seeya Steve
