Moreover, some of the comments on this thread tell us less about Margaret Thatcher, but more about the character, or the lack of character of people (anonymous little no marks) who put such offensive comments on a medium where they are theoretically accessible to the friends and family of somebody who has just died. Would Margaret Thatcher have done that! – I think not.
no she would have paid people from poor working class backgrounds a pitance to do her dirty work for her with no comeback and no sympathy if they got too ill or old to work before throwing them on the scrapheap.
A true humanitarian who had numerous dictators and despots on her christmas card list and counted as personal friends. But those fucking people on the internet, eh? What cunts.

Britain in the late 70s was a failed Britain - failed ‘Keynesian demand management’ polices - had caused the ‘Social Democratic’ experiment to implode, and the economy to collapse. Any cure would be difficult and require radical change. Many mistakes were made but without doubt the country was brought back from the brink and is in a better position now because of the changes in political direction.
In his autobiography Healy said that the 76 IMF bailout was a mistake - if government statistics had been more up-to-date they'd have realised they actually didn't need it. There were problems with the destructiveness of the relationship between capitalists and unionists but the workers needs and moral rights were real enough.
Conversely Thatchers policies were failures partly masked by squandered oil wealth. Radical change was required. But not into the direction that's landed us in our current state of screwedness.

I don't have to qualify my opinions to you-who has openly acknowledged that you are just out to troll-so why don't you fuck off back to the Daily Mail comments board where you belong.

I'm 51 years old. I grew up in a small colliery town in Tyneside.
I remember it all.
The Labour leadership needs to stand up now and declare that she was wrong. Before she is admitted to sainthood. -

Not a lot of tolerance here for people born to middle class families in the south is there...
Anyone who dares to disagree with the anti-Thatcher invective is labeled a cunt. Charming.

Van Uden if you want to say something why don't you just keep it public instead of your shifty little PMs?
