  • needs sram levers to match

  • ^ this. Will get them and Omniums hopefully sooner than later. It feels strange but so right getting a project going so quickly, and not taking forever like my other bikes. Couldn't resist having a quick ride, and yes it turns out it came with a white chain after I cleaned it. The hoods need a nudge down too.

    Thanks Howard.

I know hanging scales aren't that accurate, but I'm surprised all that paint only equals 3g.

Looking good tho. Once you get some more black parts on there it will be very nice I think.

  • 30, surely?

  • Why?

Because you think there are 100g in a kg?

    Oh.

  • I am making the assumption that the scales are showing "1.37" kg with paint and "1.34" kg afterwards.

That would, unless I've made an error, be the same as 1,370 grams and 1,340 grams- a 30 gram difference.

    ?

  • Oh.

    #sarcasm

...time to go home I think (me not you).

  • Do the replacement forks have a little less rake? Would look nicer with the front wheel more tucked in! Good little project though fo' sho'

  • Unfortunatly not, the steepest fake funda I can find is an offset of 43, which is what the original is. I could always go steeper with another fork but don't see the need as it won't be ridden in anger on the track for a while. It probably would look nicer as you say though.

  • its fine though, if this is getting a road setup a little less nervous wheelbase wont hurt.

  • In weekend jaunt guise. Tape will eventually be black and should hopefully get some omniums this week whilst changing the chain.

  • That finish looks really good- be interested to see how it ages.

  • Obviously I haven't had it long, but It does mark very easily from greasy fingers or smudge marks. Saying that, it just takes a quick wipe with WD40 and it's soon gone.

  • why do the seat stays bulge then curve? anyone know? very odd!

  • By changing the seat stay and chain stay into a more "hour glass" shape (instead of the conventional round tube), Cannondale has been able to structurally incorporate flex points to help eliminate road vibrations while keeping frame stiffness in areas that need it.

Not sure if it's changed over time, but Capo's have continual circular profile stays, while later bikes like the CAAD9 and SystemSix have a thinner and narrower profile in certain places. Possibly updated after some testing? Interestingly though, for the CAAD10 these has been abandoned for convectional straight tubes.

  • odd, good to know though!

  • I think it's supposed to add a bit of compliance and comfort as the stays bend more readily, along the curve. Odd for a track frame maybe but in keeping with the Capo as a road/training fixed.

Edit: bit slow there - what Jambon said.

  • Dammit! put your backsides away!

  • Is that a factory paint scheme?

  • Capo/Major Taylor/CAAD7 rear tubes are noticeably thicker, but the same overall shape as the road frame, was my point.

    Jambon- no.

  • The forks are in the country too from looking at the tracking.
There's lateral play in the crank arms which is slightly worrying even when fully tight, I'm hoping when I get the right tool for the bb this will eliminate the problem.

  • Provisionally trying out 48x17 as that's the largest cog I have, am expecting to find an 18t more suitable so that's why the chain is slightly long.

  • Can't you take one link out?
    Really nice looking bike nevertheless.

  • I guess I could, but can't be bothered to take one out, then struggle to reinsert it, when one length can do both cogs whilst I'm seeing what I prefer. Thanks, there's something about the omniums, gatorskins and cheap wheels which nod to the HHSB movement. At least the white chains gone though.
