No swaps, I'm after getting rid of my hoard :o)
Theres no bulge in the seat tube anywhere so don't think it was the wrong size, just it had been sat for a very long time in a barn

Holy fuck! that's worse than a blue waffle covered with Veronica Moser.

Yeah, Clarkson would be proud of my hammer efforts to fix the problem....

I bought a lovely frame from Ndiepi which had a stuck stem. He started to try and rectify it by sawing off the stem. I then hacksawed it lengthways down the tube (his - correct as it happens - advice) after flooding it with release oil. You have to be very careful not to cut into the seat tube and i appreciate that the seat post might be longer than a stem and more difficult to cut. Use a coarse hacksaw blade and wrap a teatowel round it to for a handle. Once cut through, secure the frame and carefully use a pair of meaty grips/stilsons, crush the tube as much as possible, twist and pray!
A frame builder/brazer/welder could sort out the bolt holes provided the lug has not been damaged where it's brazed to the tubes and stays but obviously there will be a cost.
nice looking frame, it would be a shame to junk it. -

any chance of some more pics please from right hand side showing where seat stay meets the lug? front on would be good too
cheers

Yeesh. That'll be a fun project for someone, but agree, it would be a real shame to junk it. Wonder whether it would be possible to cut and file off the seat clamp and then use a quick release clamp (or allen key version) instead.
Of course, all that's assuming that it is possible to remove the offending seat tube

Quick release is a bad idea.
Just get someone to fix the seatpost instead.

Too expensive for a fucked frame I'm afraid.

looking at that again, it does indeed look like an acid and hammer attack on a Mini Gogo but that "hoop" must be brazed on, no? So if someone is willing, it can be brazed off and a new one brazed on but i admit, i could be talking complete bollocks and i'm going to check mine to se if i am! Labour of love anyway you look at it.
What about taking it to a blacksmith? Ok, i'll get my coat. -

SLX is really nice tubing, so could be worth saving. Got a feeling repairing it and a respray to cover the repair damage to the paint would be in excess of £200 though. Only really worth it for someone who would have had a respray done anyway.

Reduced to £55 posted/£45 collected
Or
£30+post for the forks
£15+ post for the rest of it -

As nice a frame as it is, seems pointless to get it professionally re-sprayed unless you want to take the frame to bed! Once the hoop is fixed, mask off the areas affected by the brazing torch, rub down, prime and then spray. At least that keeps the price down. That frame is savable but it'll take patience, effort and sourcing a friendly/helpful/cheap brazer/frame builder and it does look worth the effort.

I'd take the frame and have a bash at it for £20 posted.
-
• #18
Leave the seatpost in. That way you don't have to fix anything.
-

SLX tubing are worth repairing, providing the frame fit.
£50 + £85-150 for seat tube replacement.

Doesn't need a new tube surely, just someone that knows what they're doing and a new binder/collar brazing on?
-
• #21
I agree, but it does look like it probably need a new seat tube, best to prepare yourself for the worse case scenario.

Question though, are these dents?

Re your query, no dents as I would have said outright from the off knowing the type of tubing that this is, there is a mark on the paintwork on the top tube (left) where u highlighted.however consistant with my description. There's nothing on the chainstay and the right top tube area you highlighted was just the flash :o)
Anyway I think I have a buyer.Question though, are these dents?

Fingers crossed for you. I've developed a real soft spot for this frame over the last couple of days of discussion on the forum! Very much hoping someone can make something good of it (would love to think of it being built up keeping the same colour scheme).
Could be a beaut

gaffa tape + superglue then recite the quaran backwards shuld help =)
SOLD
Pug Columbus SLX F&F 60cm c-t and 59cm c-c top tube, 130mm dropouts
Miche headset in great cosmetic if not reasonable condition mechanically (not perfectly smooth)
Sadly the seatpost is jammed and I've hamfistedly whacked the seatpost binder clamp on one side whilst trying the Jeremy Clarkson method....
I've used a fair amount of high strength ammonia gel down the seat-tube and this has certainly eaten away at the aluminium post without upsetting the paintwork which is actually in very good order.
There's a couple of relatively minor scratches on the top tube that have gone through the paint but is nothing more than cosmetic plus a couple of usual marks that are insignificant.
No dents/no mashed up bits, the drop outs are straight and undamaged as are the forks
Frankly I can't be arsed with it and I've not been well enough of late to do much cycling anyway so I'm trying to get shot of stuff I'll never get round to using/doing up.
price £61 posted £50 collected from North Herts but can bring it to High Barnet tube for £10 for diesel
