Haha, no worries about the contradiction...I want and don't want spds for contradicting reasons! I'm currently running brakeless but think I may have to pop a front one on at some point, going to try without and see how I get on though

Just threw on Michelin Pro4s and a new KMC chain. Changed the sprocket to 18t from 14 so running a much more sensible 70 inches down from 90.

Looks sweet! And now brakeless?!

Yeah I've heard of people running spds and brakeless absolutely fine, just doesn't work for me. I like to go fast too, and think straps would feel a bit too loose after having ridden clipless for years.

Oh, and the Gazelle's looking fly spiderpie. Nice to see another conversion being given some love.

ta. desperate to give it the gears and fresh paintjob it deserves and find a track frame, but might have to wait until i find myself a job.
brake will probably go back on after an inevitable countryside close call, just don't presently have any brake cable to replace the rusty old bit i took off.
-
• #458
Yeah, I think if I worked any longer than part time I'd probably save for a track bike too, but as it is I'm loving riding the Holdsworth anyway.

That Gazelle is fantastic!

Thanks! The chips on the paint are starting to show big time but I've been quoted £250 for full job and decals which seems a bit steep considering what the frame's worth.
Also, if anybody happens to see a pair of Campag quill pedals around anywhere I'd be much obliged. Not too fussed about the group; it's a bit of a mixed bag right now as you can see.

I'd leave the paint how it is! Ratty frames win

Black Tange forks added yesterday and then... Boom! New wheels waiting for me when I got in from work today. The Holdsworth is now running black DP18s (front machined, rear non), black Sapim spokes and silver Miche Hubs, looks fly, and the wheels are crazy smooth. Again a time when I wish I had a camera.

• #464
Haha nice, glad they were actually there!
-
• #465
Yeah man, I was so stoked, and I had tubes that just fitted so didn't even have to wait to see Matt!
-
• #466
nice, looking forward to seeing them
-

Yeah, the back wheel somewhat shows up the front, as the braking surface is currently a bit too shiny, but once I get caught out in the rain a few times, it'll dull down and look better. Just been out for a quick spin, and they feel heavier than my old wheels from a standing start which isn't surprising, but once you get them up to speed they just keep rolling, so smooth.

I can't remember if you got a pegasus or not? was it dp18's all round?
-
• #469
Yeah just DP18s front and back. Although because the back hasn't got the braking surface it looks much deeper. The Pegasus would be ridiculous/amazing if you could run it brakeless on both - probably heavy as fuck though.

So I just bought Ben's Falcon frame to build up a nice beater. I had a great time getting it home with it (what I thought was) shoddily attached to my chrome citizen but it actually worked a treat, didn't move an inch! Apologies for the awful pictures, I'll get some nicer ones when it's finished.
I put everything I have spare on it (butchering some other bikes in the process!) and I'm up to here so far
Still got some profile airwings, sugino rd2's, odyssey monolever and a front brake and pedals to go on, should be rideable on Tuesday.
Oh and here's a bonus shot of the frame in the bag in case anyones interested. Only had it a few days but it's been great, if you're looking for a bag, get one of these.

Yes man, yes, that looks like it's coming up perfect. Will come into the Dandy on Tuesday to see it get finished, then we can go on a victory lap around anglia square or something. Do you want me to strap the white wheels to my back on tues (in far shoddier fashion) in case you want to use them?
-
• #472
Thanks man. Yes do! Nah it's ok, I'm going to hold on to the wheels I have on it for now, thanks though.
-
• #473
Cool, cool, I might bring them in anyway and see if Matt will put them up for sale in the shop, as I really have no use for them now the DP18s have proven themselves. Will probably be there from before lunch til late on Tues.

Brake now on and a couple other bits. Where can I go to get bar tape fitted? It's the only job I've never been bothered to figure out.

It's easy, I did mine from watching online videos; mind you it did come out looking rough and I've had to redo it a few times so.....
Hey Huddo.
I've found riding fixed with spds is totally fine, unless you want to run brakeless all the time/generally dick around. Maybe it's my massive legs (or terrible skidding technique who knows) but when I'm really pulling up my leading leg can/often does pop out, resulting in some sketchy one-footedness. Feels good to be so secure when pedaling though, and i find it easier to trackstand clipped in. That said, i'm toying with getting some flats/straps, having snapped a pair of spds in half not too long ago.
Wow, what a contradictory post, apologies for waffling.
