I assume it hasn't been drying out then..
Wildmaurice enjoy the induction and try not to fall in with the "I'll ignore the coach and just sprint coz I feel like it crowd" it will get fast soon enough..

Are the Novice and Induction sessions happening on Sat does anyone know? It's on the HH website saying so, but then so is Advanced training sunday which is happening...
-
• #2610
Yes. Saturday running as usual. Sunday is cancelled because the sprinters are too soft for the cold weather.
-
• #2611
You'd think with all their, ahem, padding they could cope with a bit of cold.
-
• #2612
Can't they get blankets for their deck-chairs?
-
• #2613
Got a feeling Saturdays intermediate training is gonna be busy
-
• #2614
I am going to head down on saturday and try and get myself inducted and hopefully sorted with a bike.

It's not the riders who are soft, it's me.
Because 95% of Sunday regulars are racing good Friday and can't come Sunday, there didn't seem a lot of point in me making the effort when the forecast is looking grim and the place is such a state. Remember the clocks change so that 0900 start will be even colder/damper on Sunday. -

You need a dose of this;

I'll be there for an induction as well. On a big (hopefully) Herne Hill rented bike- I'll come say hello.

I've rebuilt my bike,
The air will be cold, heavy,
But my heart will soar. -
• #2621
I should be down tomorrow for basic training, but just realised I accidentally sold my 53T chainring a couple of months ago. Is 49x15 going to be too big? Maybe 49x16'd be more sensible. Spin to win and all that.

you'll be fine
"Gearing should be between 82 and 88 gear inches for novice riders. (48 x 15 (86″) is ideal for adult riders"
49x15 is around 85.8
-
• #2623
According to Rabbit, 49x15 is 88 with 165mm cranks and 49x16 is 82.7 - so both extremes.
I'll take both and a spanner and see how it goes.

For basic, go 49-16

The convention for track riding is to calculate gears based on the old 27" wheel standard, not 700C (which is about 26.3"). Go by what the HH website says.
If you want to mash a big gear, you can always try time-trialling. Track is about souplesse.
