What size do you think my pannier mounting lugs will take. Not M5 methinks, as this is an old 1950s british frame and they would not have had metric then. Would they?

Derailleur adjusting 1 - is it possible to get a 2 x 8 to work through all the rear cogs without having to trim the front? I mean, should I be able to stay on the big chainring, and work through cogs 1 to 8 without trimming at all? I just wonder if I can achieve this, so should do more adjusting, or if I have it as good as.
You can, worse case scenario is that you may need to change the bottom bracket width to make it work better (it did with my 2x8)
I have a flip/flop rear (different bike) and am going to fit freewheel on both sides. I know it is fine to put freewheel on track cogs.
