I want a lower stem position on my Canyon Ultimate Al (as mentioned in the road bike recommendations thread). The proprietary headset has excess stack height.
(Not my bike, but set up is the same save that I have a 73 degree stem).
One idea is to replace this with a shallow bearing cap that would allow me to 'slam dat stem'.
There are two elements of complexity. Firstly, the headset is a proprietary Acros 'ai-70 fiber' model, that applies upward pressure to the stem to keep the headset tight. Due to this headset feature there is no steerer bung. Secondly, the carbon steerer is 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 diameter.
If I bought a 1-1/4 inch bearing cap and carbon steerer bung compatible with 1-1/4 Inch steerer, could I fit these in place of the current headset? If so, can anyone recommend where to buy?

Or is this all just inviting trouble?
