I have real bad sleeping patterns, alot of my riding is done at 3AM or so. I went for my usual ride around Leicester city centre and there is a park, Victoria Park. Anyway, opposite this park there is some railings which people lock their bikes up. I noticed someone huddled over one of the bikes, I went back for a closer look and the guy had a hacksaw up his sleeve and was slowly getting at this lock each time a car had passed by.
Me being me, I had to say something, the only thing I could think of "that's not your bike, is it?"
"yes, it is my bike" he said
Obviously not convinced I rode of pretending I accepted the chaps answer, but I was really on my phone to the police, which where really helpful. There was cop van just passing by as I was on the phone and I flagged them down, told them what was going on. They swung a U and did the "POLICE, STAY WHERE YOU ARE" thing and got this guy in the van, turns out it wasn't his bike!
The PO who got this guy is a familiar face around my area so I bump into him maybe once a week and I'm pretty friendly. Last time I spoke to him, he thanked me for catching him red-handed as it's really helped their case as he's stolen a shit load of bikes and they've thrown the book at him. Leicester centre isn't really a big place, but since this guy has been booked, they've noticed roughly half the reports of thefts in the last month!
If you are going to thank me for my good-deed, bacon, whisky or hookers, please.
Not stolen, more of a nice story.
