• 5. Please tell us what you think or what problem has been caused?
At around 1445-1500 I was cycling sound along Levenshulme Road after just continuing around the right hand bend from Brookhurst Road. There were cars parked on either side on the road and in my (ex driving instructors) opinion it was not a safe place to overtake. Despite this a car overtook getting a bit too close to me, but the kind of close that you get used to as a cyclist. The driver of a council marked van then followed the car and overtook but much closer. This was close enough to shock me had I been alone on a nice day but I was riding with my daughter on the back of my bike in an obvious child seat and on a very windy day. Needless to say this was very intimidating and for a brief moment I feared for the safety of myself and my daughter. It was also an entirely pointless manoeuvre as the road opened up to a safe place to overtake around 20 feet ahead and the driver didn't get anywhere more quickly as I was still the road user behind them as we turned from Melland Road onto Mount Road and only lost sight of them once I turned onto Broom Lane and they continued onwards. Thankfully this gave me plenty of time to attempt to memorise the number plate, which was YT52 YNH, although could have possibly been 53 or YTH.

    6. If you're making a complaint, let us know how you think we can put things right?
Ideally the driver will be offered some kind of cycle training so they know what it feels like to share the road with few tonnes of van, and have them overtake inches away from them. I belive http://www.bikeright.co.uk/ offer this just round the corner from where this happened. If not then maybe a slap on the wrist will at least make them think twice about putting people at risk to not get anywhere more quickly.

Just left this on Manchester councils website, first time I've complained about something like this, although I would have complained about a taxi previously if I'd have got his plate.
