also, almost everyone is ready for TNRC.
if you can ride up a hill, fix a puncture, and get around 30 miles without having a heart attack, TNRC is a lovely and friendly way to spend an evening. there are some strong riders, but people wait for people and I've never seen anyone left behind.
Besides, we will be down on greek Adonis types, what with Ben out of the country. (Subsequently, there may also be less female company this year).
if you dont ride that far regularly then, bring something to eat, especially if you usually eat early and will be skipping dinner. a few muesli bars are a good option.
otherwise, come along and meet some nice people for a pleasant ride.
Hah thanks, that is reassuring! I'm just waiting on my new bike and then getting used to it really... 30 miles is an unknown quantity but I'd like to think riding every day would help.

Benjam.
Unless he's really committed to the TNRC, my money's on him not being able to make it :p

He does love being described as an Adonis though so......

You need to channel your anger, young man. Bad dad comp this season? I'm aiming for two appearances...
I'll need to get my application in or we'll have to wait until the end of the season.
But yeah. I'd be up for bad dadding it. Though with Sam, Skive, Shoots, BMMF, Andy P, etc and so on, i think the competition is tough. -

What is this bad dad comp of which you speak?
-
• #182
Bad parent really.

• #183
In, then.

• #184

I led a Kent I ride in the rain a couple of years ago and my front light packed up about halfway round.
I think that was the one where the top of Exedown was fenced off.

Can't you just have your tea a bit later?

• #189
what time will we likely to be back in central london for? any ideas?
-
• #190
typically 11.30 to midnight ish
-
• #191
oh yeh that is getting on a bit isn't it.
trnc rides north of the river are easier for me as by the time i'm realistically in bed its gone well late and the alarm goes off at 5.20 so i'll have to give this one some thought...
will probably be bitched slapped now with someone saying they live further away and will be getting up earlier... -
• #192
paging smiff, some bitch needs a slapping here.
AirTime, you get used to it and a reasonably early night the next day helps.
-
• #193
Airtime, in my experience TNRC is not a next-day-killer, unlike actual overnight rides. You can normally be back in bed by 12:30 or 1pm.

Do I detect a number two here?

that would be an all night and all morning ride

Anyway, you get in ready to be in bed by 1am, but the feral state you find yourself in means you're up until 2.30am or whatever.

Tuesdays aren't working well for me at the moment - currently down on hospital visit duties, but hoping a late substitution will get me on the ride. Backstop by necessity I suspect - haven't seen a hill since TV and Ludwig left me for dead on this route end of last year.
If you're not leading, and you're not dropping many bike lengths off the rider in front, descents are pretty much a case of following the line of the red LED in front (hopefully not a blinding one), and listening for shouts of 'hole!' or whatever.
If I stayed mid-pack, and there was an experienced rider in front / beside me, I could ride a whole fucking TNRC route with no lights at all; but then, I'm an experienced rider.
If someone with a pissy front light fucked up and wiped me out, on the other hand, I'd be inclined to give them a strong talking to.
