I have a couple of their jackets, a windproof shell which is superb and the Espresso Due soft-shell. I'm about a 42" chest and have tried the L, XL and XXL in both of these jackets, I settled with the XXL in both. The XL is tight (I would say 'race fit'), but a tad short in the arm length, the XXL is hardly any bigger in the body but spot on with the arm length. Castelli stuff is tiny, it seems it's designed for Pantani sized riders.
I would try some gear on if possible, but If you're buying Castelli stuff online I would order two sizes and return one, seeing as most places offer free postal returns now.
