  • Yes, need new tape. Fizik Soft Touch?

Is it just me, or has Fizik soft touch changed?

First few builds with it and it was silky smooth and a real nice feel to it, whereas the last 3-4 times its been this fuzzy stuff that's nowhere near as nice.

Actually sent back the last couple of packs I ordered.

  • that sounds like soft touch?

maybe you were used to plain old microtex..

  • #ftfy

that scobled and spottered at once

  • plus einganged lol

  • ^^^^^ Still, function over form for travelling Steve! Looking like a great touring rig.

  • *ninja edit to make it look less like my photo :)

  • Mostly finished my touring bike. Need a longer stem and drop bars/hoods i think
For the the first time i'm disappointed i ride small frames, as there is not much real estate for bikepacking and everything is a bit cramped.

That look fucking awesome! very very jealous.

Take that as an advantage by forcing yourself to rethink certain item that's may or may not be necessary for your tour.

i.e. instead of a normal sleeping bag, a zero degree one + cheap uniqlo ultralight down jacket + woolly socks is enough to keep you warm in but the coldest temperature.

Put a hydration pack inside the framebag (unless there's a lots of stuff in it that you need to carry) if necessary to free up the bottle cage, and use the bottle cage to carry says, necessary tools.

No, was definitely ordering Microtex soft touch black, just wasn't the same though, and have now gone for SRAM supersuede gel tape that's alright.

    Original smooth stuff (good) -

Newer fuzzy stuff (not so good) -

  • ^^I never really realised one could carry that much without resorting to racks and panniers etc.

  • cheap uniqlo ultralight down jacket

DON'T get this, i bought this a month or so ago, it is warm and packs up light and compact BUT it rips even with the lightest of the scruff, mine has started leaking feathers out. Not impressed.

  • Laner, can you tell me the make of the saddle bag? I've seen them around on the forum but I forget what they are...

  • don't know if you can still get them, but I've got an old snugpak sleeka, not proper down, but hard wearing and packs down to a reasonable size

I on the other hand was impressed with the price, been using it for skiing as well as touring and everyday wear.

Blocked the wind brilliantly, and with a small compressor, packed down to the size of a coke can.

  • It have been replaced by a Rab Generator, which is a great jacket, but doesn't pack as small and slightly heavy unfortunately (much cheaper than the more expensive Rapha one).

  • yea its a great jacket and a good value too i just wished it'd last longer

  • praise for Rab over at Brother cycles blog too

this has been troubling me too. so irritating.

  • Mine will be for sale once I get my black rainbow project saddlebag :D

  • How about a picture of the finished bike?

  • Running tubeless- been doing some reading and what crops up time and again is "didn't seal until I used a compressor", does this fit with most peoples experience?

Nope, I've got two sets of tubeless tyres to seat without using a compressor. One pair of Racing Ralphs on crabbon fibber 29er rims using Bontrager Rhythm rim strips, and one pair of Vittoria XGs using the same rim/tape combo.

I've got a very large bore track pump which is handing for popping the tyres on. Using the compressor does make it easier, but my home compressor is proper fucked at the moment, and I haven't had time to get a new one or drag one of the others home.

    Could be interested :)

  • in progres...

Have you got any more pics Gaston, I'm having a little trouble getting a smooth brake cable transition from the levers down the the bars, did you file a little bit of the inside of the brake?
