^^^^^^^^^ meant to say thanks to Corny and Amey for the RAM and SSD tipz. And the very pleasant and excellently named Nelson Crespo for an excellent sale. The '09 iMac is in amazing nick.
I am in conflicting software version purgatory at the moment but that's no fault of fthe vendor. He's restored it to factory settings which included Leopard. I tunes won't work on that as it's saying it needs Quicktime 7.5.5 or later. Slightly confused as to why all original installed versions of things won't play nicely with each other but anyway...There's not a download for that alone so I assumed I need to to update OSX (the new itunes won't work with Leopard either). Apparently I can't upgrade to Mountain Lion without first updating to Snow Leopard. Okay fine...
No biggie. It's just a lot more of a faff than I had been lead to believe it should be. Took me a couple of hours to google all the various incarntions of things I need and how to get there last night.
