I find Kent and Surrey pretty easy unless you specifically loop round a small area, whereas Herts/Bucks/Sussex have shorter but more constantly occurring drags and climbs however you plot your route.

yeah i'd agree with this too, but not the bit about kent and surrey being particularly easy! i always wonder why my average speed going round herts isn't higher but seem to forget the long drags where i can't really get about 14-15mph!
