Just got back from my second session on my ribs with Liam Sparkes. Again I must sing his praises, not only for the quality of his work but also his manner.
-
• #6856
Manner is important especially if they're working on somewhere like your ribs.
I'm really not looking forward to getting back into that but I have to get it finished as next project.

Good luck. What are you having done?

Luckily it's a while off yet, I've got sleeves to finish first.
I'll try and put a pic up but I've got spade, diamond, club, heart symbols down my left side. With the spade at the side of my rib and then they kind of follow the contour down and in so the tip of the heart is kind of at the bottom of the hip flexor muscle (if I had one showing) these ones are all decorated.
The other side is mirrored but just the outlines. The plan is to have all sorts of baroque floral stuff framing them. Leaving the symbols as negative space, so it's kind of symmetrical but not, if you know what I mean. Going all over my right side onto my leg etc.
So I think it needs to be all just grey and shading so it looks a lot like the kind of for plaster/carving you get in old theaters on picture frames etc. also thinking to do it with different layers some fainter than others.
Quite hard to explain. And really hard to find someone I want to do it. Looking around dreamworld would be Thomas Hooper, but also thinking maybe Matt Black. I think I need someone who can work with the body shape. Nigel planters stuff looks really cool, but think I want more contrast.
Sorry about the essay TLDR etc

Does anyone suffer the shakes during the tattoo? Im not sure whether it's because the pain was severe, but after about 15mins I started shaking. I brought some ribena to sip on but nothing seemed to work. Thankfully Liam was kind enough to give me regular breaks and after walking around for about a minute they -shakes- subsided. It was a bit embarrassing!

could it have been the cold? i got a little shaky but i think that was due to shangri la just being rather draughty and cold, and the fact that i had no trousers on.

I always get the shakes. I try to have something substantial to eat beforehand and also a sugary drink. It depends on how long I'm getting tattooed for and in what area but I always get them at some point, with my ribs it was fairly early on. It is embarrassing though!
