Anybody got any idea about Geoffrey Butler bb stamps? Got a nice frame with Geoffrey butler decals and the bottom bracket is stamped LB and -7. According to the stickers the tubing is 531 st. Has full touring mounts as expected.
Lugs are extremely similar to this bike:
http://www.lfgss.com/thread33976.htmlBut with concave bits where the seat stays join the top tube, like this:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7243/7233284120_9e86f85dc3_z.jpg
Frame looks in pristine condition, stove enamelled with no chips at all just very slight cable rub on one patch.I don't doubt it's a Geoffrey Butler, but the bloke who sold it to me said it might have been built by Cliff Shrubb. The guy seemed nice and used to race with one of the Swinnertons, very interested to see if he was right about Cliff Shrubb.
Built by Nigel Dean, called up GB and they were very helpful.
It was built in the early 90's and is the same frame as the lovely Nigel Dean Tour Ace frames. -

Hi I've recently acquired a frame from a friend who thought it was an Aende, but looking at the linked below thread I'm intrigued to think it's a Mercian?
NOTE: I can't see a number on the BB shell.
http://www.lfgss.com/thread55711.html
Here are the pictures, if anybody can conform what it is, I'd appreciate it very much.
Looking at the paint I'd say Pegoretti HA! #nothelpingiknow

Max...check out seventies raliegh frames from about 72 to about 80...they made frames with excatly the same lugs with campag dropouts...they sometimes stamped the seat collar and the seat posts were 26.4...
The name escapes me at the mo...they were 531 with forks to...tho maybe not the seat/chain stays...light metallic green with box lining on the tubes...I built up one about 18 months ago...I'm damned if I can remember the name...like a royale? or regal? I know they did a royale tho I don't know if thats the frame I mean...
Tho i'm sure from the lugs it's one of those...the other lugs are to well finished...your lugs are generic ie factory......the others posted have been hand finished...
It's not a Gazelle tho...and def not AA...AA was top of the range race frame...on those you get wet...you don't have eyelets...
tho where are you? whatever it is it's quite old...that it doesn't have any braze ons...means it's pre seventies...if it's all clips then thats dating it...which takes it outof the realm of my raliegh punt...
tho it's a pretty frame...you need to look for mass produced I think...the lugs aren't hand finished, any artisan builder would have filed the lugs a lot finer...
Hi,
I have been looking at Raleighs, but I haven't found those round cutouts yet and the S/N doesn't seem to fit. I live in the Netherlands, so a Dutch brand seems a good guess.
BTW, I'm working on the bike atm, bought some nice old Dura Ace and Campy parts, which I'm cleaning up.

have you thought about vintage batavus - professional etc - not really an area I know much about, but probably worth a quick look.

^ Yep, 26.0 is pretty significant - it means the bike does not have 28.6mm OD tubing.
If the OD of the tubes is perhaps 28.0, and it's a plain gauge tube at 0.9mm wall thickness that would be a nominal 26.2mm ID so allowing for eccentricity a 26.0mm seatpost would fit.
28.0mm tubing tends to be referred to as "French"... Most columbus frames were 28.6, but Vitus were typically 28.0, as was the 531 for the french market.
The only other bikes I've seen 26.0 seatposts on are Japanese - I had a centurion with a 26.0 post - made from plain gauge Tange tubing.
There are obviously exceptions, today I'm riding a Cliff Shrubb track bike with a 26.0mm seatpost - Some UK frame builders used Vitus tubing and some used french 531.
Turns out I made a mistake and the seatpost is actuall 27mm. Stupid me, still: thanks for the lessons on tubing!

Howdy!
Any ideas on the origin/make of this frame?
Won it on ebay last year as complete time trail bike, just taken all the lovely Campag kit off it, ready to sell, it is aluminium with carbon forks, and weighs nothing even for such a large frame! (yet to measure it) and the welds are super smooth!Last owner got it powdercoated with his name on, mentioned it could be Italian..
any ideas would be great, thanks

That brake bridge is rather nice.
No idea of the make, but if you check the BB shell (or the BB you removed) and the diameter of the fork's crown race that would tell you if it's Italian.

^^If it's any help, the forks look like mizuno - I used to have them on an old de rosa

What are these - and what group on the Colnago? Thanks in advance.

I think its a Elite Piste (as the original poster suggested). The Alu team were, to my knowledge, road frames. The welds on the frame is the picture seem a bit less smooth than they often were but it could just be the color/livery and illumination drawing them out.
The fork? The standard fork delivered with the Elite Piste was a carbon fork. The (spectacular) track MAX fork was an (expensive) option.
These, I think, were really the last great Merckx track frames (especially with the MAX fork which is one of my heafy favorites)..Here is a picture I found of Marcel Barth riding one (with the above livery):
(carbon and not steel fork)I've just checked mine - it says Alu Team on it, and came direct from Merckx with the Max forks. Mine is a sort of blue/green colour that de Wilde used to ride.
I think that the Elite Piste was the next generation - the model that Keisse rode some years ago.

The only Alu Team frames I've seen were road frames but .... I'd be hard pressed to try to gather what their differences could be (if any)..

Elite Piste was what Marty Nothstein rode from around 2002 or so.. Not sure when the model first was made but I think they were in the Merckx program until 2006 when they introduced the Alu Pista--- a cheaper grade compact frame made of Deda Fire. I think they were probably orderable until the end (2009) but I'm not sure ..
For some years he was on this

which was, I think, carbon. Before that not sure..Here is a picture of Bartko und Keisse from the 2008 Munich 6-days

These days Keisse is on Alu.. I think Dolans but..Noy the best resolution, but mine is identical to this frame, except that mine hasn't got the chrome forks/polished rear. Definitely says Alu-Team on my top tube -

I need help me identify this model De Rosa

• #2969
Looks like a DeRosa SLX from the 1980s with 1992 Record Ergopower (Maybe 93 Chorus), Chorus Monoplaner, Chorus Cranks, Chorus headset,... handlebar looks like Cinelli Eubios but hard to tell.. I'd suspect it was purchased new around 1993-94. The stem and bars might have come later.. If its a Cinelli either the stem does not fit or its a later Eubios (Cinelli switched from 26.4 to 26.0mm in 1997/8 as part of the fusion with 3TTT). Could also be an ITM bar (they were 26.0).. can't see so just guessing..
-
• #2970
^I'm guessing ITM bars/stem - stem looks like an eclypse (26.0) - fairly common on italian bikes around the mid 90's.

• #2971
The Ergos are later than 1992: the tips of the brake levers were triangular for '92.
The cranks look sub-Chorus from what I can see. 1st gen Chorus had a noticeable raised lip around the crank bolt and 2nd gen inherited the defunct CDA cranks with self-extracting crank bolts; both of these had tapered spider arms.

no one knows what that GT is... really?
I'm confussed. E de Wilde is clearly on a Merckx. Bartko is on a Bartko (which is probably a Merckx) and Keisse is on a Merckx.. If one is refering back to Marty.. He rode Merckx after 2000.
At the Olympics he rode carbon GTs at both Atlanta and Sydney ... they were, I think, from Trimble--- Brent designed the original Kestrals-- as the frame had all the hallmarks- Back in the mid-1990s there were just a handfull of builders doing monocoques (and with a basket full of US gov dollar backing doing the mold was not a cost issue). The wheels were from Mavic. The Project ’96 GT superbike was outlawed by the UCI in 2000 so... -
• #2973
^ I think he's referring to the green GT Competition or whatever it is that he'd previously posted - nothing to do with the Merckx question...
In answer to his question - it looks like a 99/2000ish GT cro-moly frame. Crossbar seems to say "competition" and another word, possibly an RX100 groupset.
See if you can find a catalogue scan from 99 or 2000, I remember seeing lugless cro-mo GT road bikes in the shops around that time - before that they were all high end aluminium jobs -

So i am now the owner of this early 80's Ciocc track frame / fork. At least I think it's a Ciocc...
It was sprayed up and badged as one, although it doesnt have any of the pantographing that others seem to (top of fork crown / seatstays etc). But does look very similar to a Mockba 80. Same forks / chroming etc.
The only info I've managed to dig is that it used to be ridden by this dude http://www.veloveritas.co.uk/2012/04/26/paul-mchugh-interview/ - that's according to the old boy who sold me (Chris) it. I'm not sure how true that is, because from the pictures in that article, Paul McHugh doesnt look tall enough to ride this frame... Hmm
Plus the serial / frame number I found on the top nearside of the seat-tube BA 2864 R (see pic) while stripping the paint... Googling and interweb searching has brought nothing up on this number though.
Maybe this was a un-branded frame that Ciocc made, for the rider or team? Could be a possibility. Not sure if anyone can be of any help! I should probably just try andcontact Mr. Pelizzoli
