Cable discs are a bit of a faff it's true - lots of adjustment required (strangely much less on the second set of pads - harder compound maybe?) - but I've found them to work well (Apex levers/ Tektro Lyras) - and they definitely saved my bacon on the big drop offs at the Ally Pally Supercross.
That said they arent a patch on hydraulic discs. I definitely want to try these (Spyres) when they're out though:
