  • Ask Arshavin

"Q: Andrey, was Windows 7 your idea??"

  • I'm not saying that you might not need backup but I don't believe he is the player to provide this - either better than what you have, or youth to develop. He isn't either really at 22. Obviously this is my opinion and only based on watching maybe 5/6 of his games - french football highlights etc I believe there are technical deficiencies/attitude problems that make him a less than ideal candidate. If it were my money I'd be looking at Griezmann or Jese Rodriguez.

Apparently Spurs are looking at Griezmann, if/when Bale goes

  • I'm watching the game on 'mute' as I can't bear listening to the larup coming from that bellwipe Andy Townsend's mush!

  • interesting article by "inverting the pyramid" Jonathon Wilson on the rise of Bale and how this has been helped by AVB's use of him and the team compensating for his movement with the interchange of players in the final third.

    this quote stands out..

"Predictably, that has led to claims that Tottenham are a one-man team, as though his brilliance was inevitable and not linked to those around him. There seems to be a belief that individual brilliance undermines the whole notion of a systemic approach to football.

It is possible that one superb player playing superbly can outweigh shambolic organisation. But far more likely, and far more common, is that individual and system work together, that the system provides the environment in which an individual can thrive and the individual, in doing so, elevates the whole.

André Villas-Boas is clearly grateful to Bale but the way Bale charged to celebrate with Villas-Boas after scoring the winner in the 3-2 victory at West Ham on Monday suggests he is aware how much he owes to his manager."

As much as I'm enjoying Bale performing to such a high level, also equal amounts annoying and worrying are the recurring frequency of the "whose in for Bale" articles, which all start from the premise that he HAS to leave in order to secure participation in the Champions League.
This one from the usually excellent David Conn, http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2013/feb/26/gareth-bale-sensation-tottenham-style

hits all the previously tapped buttons, but this quote gave me pause.

"Whether Bale decides to accept that option, and stay where he is settled and flourishing, partly depends on whether, with his extravagant gifts, Spurs qualify for the Champions League next season. Their manager, André Villas-Boas, acknowledged that earlier this month, when he said of keeping the Welshman: "If we reach our objectives [of qualifying for the Champions League] we can hopefully continue to have Gareth in our club."

That is one settled aspect of the Bale discussion. When playing as well as any footballer in Europe, he does not want to be excluded from the greatest European club competition. If Spurs do qualify the betting, still, is that he will push to leave."

If the reason for him leaving (apart from the money) is playing Champions League football, then why would he leave if Tottenham qualify? Why would he push to leave? Doesn't make any sense..

@Tenderloin, haven't seen any of Griezmann, had a quick look at his wiki page. Good to know we are looking for possible Bale alternatives, but if its anything like our hunt for a striker, it could go on indefinitely..

  • Corny, will you stop boring everyone about Spurs

    NOBODY CARES!

  • Paul Scholes
    Aggy Deyn
    Mark Owen
    PLATINI

  • Pisti, I would tell you to talk about your own team, as I'm talking about mine, but since you seem to post exclusively about Liverpool, I'd probably mistake you for a red...

  • I'll say it again

YOU DON'T EVEN GO TO THE MATCH!

  • The media wankfest over Matt Smith is now over....it's bizarre

He's a lanky streak of piss that wins the odd header, the end!

  • The keeper of the chevrons returns with a stockpile

  • Pisti could say the same about you, with your current no show, while kenwright is still in charge, or have you bitten the bullet and showed your support recently?

  • RIP Barca 2009-2012

  • They will still win the league, which considering all things isn't a bad return.

  • Evolution of the number 9

  • They will still win the league, which considering all things isn't a bad return.

the curse of fabregas forbids it

  • They will still win the league, which considering all things isn't a bad return.

    Lost the Supercopa to Real
Knocked out of the Copa del Rey by Real
Potentially out of the Champions League

Should Real go on and win their tenth European Cup, that league win will count for nothing. Still a big if.

  • Are you in this? Mark Moore is in this.

I doubt it very much... Mid to late 80s was my heyday and I was never 'a face' anyway... Me and my mates were Mudd Club, Deliriium, Opera House People... The Quiff Crew...

  • The way AVB spoke of Willian's move to russia I could see levy coughing up the £30M to get him out of there. That is if he accepts £60m+ to sell Bale.

It's funnypeople think it's odds on he will quit spurs no matter what in the summer.
    Things to note:
He has just started a family with his GF,
at 23 is still really 5/6 years from his real professional peak,
someone who is genuinely focused on his football and shy of the limelight,
potential opportunity to play CL football again with spurs.

Given all that it's likely he will go? Bloody mental if bookies agree

  • Yarklad, your view is very naive..Spurs are a very well run club financially and a lot of that is down to buying players relatively cheaply and selling them on when they reach fruition. ENIC do not pump any money into Spurs, but have built a competitive team by milking a large affluent fan base and selling players. If there are any offers for Bale in the region of 50 + million, Levy will be packing Bale's bags and driving him to the airport, after of course ensuring there will be no higher offers..The only way Bale will stay is if he really wants to stay, champions league or not. If we do get 70 mill and champions league that money will be spent on players, three really good players. The signs are that ENIC are getting ready to sell the club once stadium plans are in place, highlighted by their desire to get the Olympic park stadium which was very attractive to American investment. They would be very nervous about keeping such a valuable asset who could be one injury away from being worthless. Spurs fans need to accept that Bale has become too big for the club and WILL leave. Spurs will get very good money for him as Fergie, City and PSG will all counter bid Real. Apologies for the essay! Now, back to Liverpool.

I can *still *say I've been to more games this season than you have in your lifetime and have just paid for my Man City AND Arsenal tickets, I will also be going to the upcoming Spurs match....you know at WHITE HART LANE, followed by Liverpool, West Ham AND Chelsea last game of the season

    #suckmychevrons

  • The keeper of the chevrons returns with a stockpile

    well his team did win

  • radio 5 gave me a bit of perspective on the whole wenger situation
i think i do feel a bit sorry for him
i mean everton have won fuck all since 1995 and they're not having a go at their very average manager
poor wenger .. just imagine if he'd done as poorly as moyes in the last 10 years he'd have been out on his ear no question about it

    #wengerstays#

I think we need to know how many times Corny has seen Spurs. The "I've been to the [moon] more often than mikec has been to Anfield" discussion was such fun.

  • and don't forget pisti to goodison
