A fella I ride with has bontrager nebula guards, they're dead sturdy and quick release for getting the bike in the car easier. I've just broken my sks jobs and I'm going to replace them with these.

Well yeah, but Ed did dibb first.
#feelingbadAlso it'd have to be Wednesday I'm out looking at jobs tomorrow evening.
True, and I am happy for Ed to have these as he does indeed have first dibs.
If convenient I'd like to have a look, then if I reckon they're a goer I'll order a pair. Being able to actually have a look at them is a goal in of itself.

I will then kill Ed and use his skull as a mug.

Wednesday would be fine Ed. I think it's right to give you first refusal.
Are you out west somewhere? We could meet in the middle if you want.40mm is smallest GB, I'm using a 25mm tyre, won't that look a bit shit?
I'm a bit pissed off cause I got the 25 mm paselas so I could use the Salmons which I've has since SJS sold them (10 years) But they're not going to work with a 25 should have stuck with 27 paselas and.......?
Anyone want to swap a new (mounted but unridden) pair of 25 folding Pasela tour guards for the same in 27mm?

Dammit you're welcome to have a look at them later tomorrow, I'll pm you.
-
• #608
That'd be cool. What's the largest tyre that can be used with them?
-
• #609
40mm is idea, to put it in perspective, I need a 60mm GB for the 42mm Grand Bois tyres.
Give me till tomorrow, there's a chance I may have a 40mm GB in the shed.

Also, i'll weight them tomorrow as someone did with their;
urban myth shattered.
So , have spent a good hour mucking about taking the front berthoud off (they are the 700c ones.)
I thought they are bound to be heavier than the 35mm SKS ones that every LBS has.
Berhoud with stays weighs 193 g
SKS with stays weighs 234 g.The berthoud imho looks much better so I put it back on.

As far as I know SKS still use a sandwich of poly and alu, making them tougher (in theory anyway) than the Bontragers.

Hmm, maybe, but my SKS guards are the commuters rather than the chromoplastics and they've broken from me tugging at them from the saddle when the flimsy stays allow them to start rubbing at the first sight of a pothole. The sturdier mounting on the Bontragers appeals.

I don't suppose anyone has a rear SKS Raceblade mudguard they don't need any more? Mine fell out of the stays and it got run over :-(
The front is fine and the rear stays are still attached to my bike, I just need the actual mudguard bit to put on there.
Failing that, does anyone have contact details for SKS? You can't seem to buy the parts individually and I have been unable to find a website. Trying get a refund from Evans for the Raceblades has been unsuccessfull (actually I can't be fucked to take everything off my bike and spend money posting it to Evans on the off chance that they do actually decide to do something about it).
If anyone does have a mudguard I can give you some cash, donate to the forum or whatever. I don't have anything to swap.
Cheers
Dan

Cheers, no separate mudguards though!

...or just buy a really cheap set so that the rear wears out at the same time as your current front.

Any suggestions to make a Planet Bike clip on fender like this:
Fit on the rear stays of a Cannondale like this:
They stays are too bloody steep!
-
• #620
I haven't installed that style - are they not flexible enough to bend to your will?
-
• #621
Not really... the stays are pretty stiff and the mudguard is pretty stiff too.

Interesting.
Took the full Velo Orange alu mudguard off the bike, left the hardware on (with sellotape).
It came out at 449g.
According to the review, the Curana is 415g;

Another review said that the SKS Chromoplastic is 488g;
