They're both Chorus.
The one you've taken off is an 8 speed from 1995 or 1996 (group names added from '95 and Chorus went 9 speed in '97, so "9 speed" was added below the group name).
The one you're trying to fit is 1st gen. from 1988 to 1990: it's the only model to have the "Dual-Mode System". The whole body of the derailleur could rotate on the upper pivot arm to accommodate different sized sprockets.
