Yeah I understand. I realise it was a silly question.
It sounds like something has been stripped or damaged, OR the pitches don't match (Link below describes two minutely different ones). Does the bolt thread in o.k from the other side of the hanger? Is the thread on the end of the bolt dented or damaged from dropping? If so, this can be fixed with a file.
This will probably rule some things out for you.
