There's a fundamental problem with your comment. Nobody is 'coaching riders to gold medals', they are coaching riders to be the best that they can be. At the moment, the talent means that the best those riders can be is usually on the podium. A professional coach is 100% concerned about the process, not the outcome. Get the process right and the outcome will take care of itself.
We have a coaching education structure in GB cycling which seems to have become the envy of the world, it's not just the huge pool of talented riders that are accessible, but also a lot of highly knowledgable coaching staff.
When you watch some of the lesser known nations, see how well (or how poorly) they execute technique. It's often very obviously behind the likes of GB, France, Germany etc even to the amateur eye. Therefore it's no surprise that the Indian cycling team were recently found to be using British coaching manuals from the 1970's.
you"ve totally missed my point, Braisford, Iain Dyer etc do coach them on a 4yr cycle tried & tested! They only have confidence and know it works, from the success they have had! They might not be coaching them on that day to Gold medals, but the training they do IS geared to hitting numbers to produce Gold.. -

No, I haven't missed your point. It's quite easy to see your extremely simplistic view of what you believe is required to coach athletes to success: having already done it.
A rather 'chicken and egg' theory which I'm afraid highlights your lack of actual knowledge on the subject.

Funny how I predicted his time would be exactly the same as what he did after he did it. I'm amazing. Did you predict the Frenchman crushing his nuts on the stem after seeing it too?
Did you not see the word 'before'. That's what makes it a prediction.
Something which you know very well I'm better than you at.

Commentator now asking what event the 500m resembles in athletics. Yes, but what is point?

To provide a comparison (however tenuous) for viewers new to the sport.

Because they will have experience of running a 400m at pace? Fairly meaningless frame of reference.
Anyway, another medal. Whoop.

By doing this as a plan, the following rider is able to ride closer to the leading rider without having to adjust pace in order to 'manage' the gap they need to 'rush' for the changeover.
This way, the gap is managed by moving up the track to open the distance to rush into, with the added advantage of height for more speed. Obviously with practice, the following rider will know exactly where and how far to move up.
It's certainly nothing new, I've done it myself before to avoid having to shut down behind a slower leadout man.
can't believe no one else has laughed at / picked up on this !!
