Thanks dammit, thats a dam good price, but shipping and potential vat is putting me off argh.
-
• #1879
Dammit, they have quoted 157 for one rim for me, is that a mistake? Finger got that price for two :(
-
• #1880
Dammit, did you ask about the new wide U-shaped 50mm they were discussing a while back on WW? Or were they only tubs?
-
• #1881
157 must be per rim, 157 for 2 is ridiculously cheap..
-
• #1882
I saw them for 160 a pair a few months back but can't find it now.
-
• #1883
Here's some tubs for 188 a pair so it's not too hard to believe there were clinchers for a similar price.

But then again maybe chinese rims are like chinese people in the way that i lack the skill to distinguish them.

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/FULLFUN-Carbon-Rims-700C-20mm-Clincher-Rims-Road-Bicycle-3K-Glossy-2-Piece-Bike-Rims/671471015.htmlDon't bother, get Velocity A23, 28h rear, 24h front, and get an Mack ultralight rear track hubs and front road hubs.

• #1888
190g Mack single fixed rear.
47g Mack superlight road front.
853g Velocity A23.
187g (52 spokes) Sapim Super Spokes.Fuck know nipples weight, but about approx 1300g for a decent everyday hip hop fixie wheelset.
Or you can go lower, 24 rear, 20 front reducing spokes to 158g rounding it up to 1250g.
Would suggest ZTR Crest (380g) rear but the lowest they can go is 28h.

I did think about that after someone* said it in either CP or my thread but the problem is price for me really.
The chinese option is a fair bit under £300 whereas that option looks like it's a fair bit more and having to pay shipping on each thing too.
I am sure it's safer and you've shown that it's lighter but the price, unless I have more luck getting a part time job it'll be harder.*I think you

With your track record, perhaps carbon wheels is pushing it ever so slightly.
-
• #1891
Ha Ed, they'd be going on a carbon frame so I reckon the damage is already done.

I just built up a set of 30mm far eastern Clinchers with Bitex hubs. They come in at exactly 1150g. I will add some nipple washers before i tension them properly so final weight will be a little bit higher.
holy shit that's light

For what its worth, the American classic high flange rear hub is lighter than the mack low flange. Only by 10 grams lighter but every gram counts right?

• #1896
Good thinking, is it the kind of hubs you can comfortably use everyday? What the drilling? Would find out but in a&e trying to ignore the pain
-
• #1897
I've been using one for nearly a year now in all conditions and it still runs nice and smooth, I'd definitely recommend it. I guess the only downside is that they only do 24h drilling but that should be enough for most people if the wheel is built well with good rims.
-
• #1898
24h plenty for a weight weenie, cheer.
-
• #1899
That's enough for me but again the problem is price.
-
• #1900
I'm around 76kg so should be within most limits.
