For me there's also a distinction between the serious bikes and those that are just there for a laugh (the +1's if you will).
I get through quite a lot of tarck bieks, lo pros etc and constantly change bits on them, but I've had a De Rosa for 10years and have only changed out components when they die.
Still don't think I'd have the confidence to go for a custom frame yet though as I'm still collecting my thoughts on what constitutes perfection
