It can work well if you're not too busy with your phone. If you constantly chat, use the net, e-mail then it isn't too good. It turns off Wifi and Mobile Data when the screen is off, but there is a slight delay obviously. That can be annoying because sometimes the phone goes a little funny if it's doing that every few minutes.
Also I use my widgets and they don't get updated until you get a connection. Definitely recommended if you aren't on your phone so frequently.
As Velo said, the screen takes up the most battery.
