Tasker is good for battery saving tricks once you get the hang of it.
Mine does stuff such as automatically turning GPS on when an app requiring GPS is launched and then turning it back off when you close. Similarly, wifi turns on when I get home and turns off when I leave the flat.
I use DBPower Amp for converting to mp3, etc. It's good but you've got to pay for it after the trial.
If it's just one big wav with a cue file then I use CUETools to split it first.
