  • Bought this a few months ago from a forum member, great fun, but prefer my old conversion for practical, financial and comfort reasons.

(Picture from Rodolfo's July thread, will update with more photos)

70s, Australian, 54,5 c-c, 56 c-t seattube, 56 cm c-c toptube, 531 Reynolds tubing. Nice color. Campagnolo ends. tight clearances. Double crown fork.

Good condition. - there has been a repair on the steerer tube which i will take photos of and detail at a later date...

Can include a 26.8mm Gipiemme Sprint seatpost.

Not in London - Can arrange pickup from Bristol, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Oxford area? Or post, if i can find a suitable box.

    EDIT : OFFERS.

  • Hi,
Could you please post a pis of the fork crown?
    Thanks
    Eric

  • I meant of course "pic"

  • hey, can I dibs this, pending picture of the repair?!?

  • also, is the gipiemme seatpost the black one in the picture, and does it come with a useable headset? cheers!

  • this is the vintage gipiemme seatpost - but i could include the black one pictured instead, but its only a 10 pound one Brand-X from Chain Reaction Cycles. No headset is included, the one i used is knackered. I've had a PM but if hes not interested you'll be next priority... I will update with pictures of the repair tommorow.

  • So no brake drillings then?

Could you also post a pic of the steerer repair?

    Many thanks,

    Eric

  • ok, that sounds good, hehe the back one doesn't really look like a gipiemme now that you say it...but suits the build i have in mind;)

  • Here are pictures of the steerer repair and pictures of how far stems can be inserted. these are both 13cm insertion stems. I have been riding with the steerer like this, and the stem like this for months.

  • still available, offers welcome

  • Hi sorry for getting back so late. tbh, I am not expert enough to know whether it's dangerous or not to ride it like that. it's a beautiful frame and just my size. but I think 180 is a tiny bit steep for it, also in light of the repair, my offer would be around the 150 mark, no offense!!!

no offense taken! Yeh the repair is seriously annoying. I'll have a think. At what price would you be seriously interested?

  • fork crown is beautiful

  • Lovely fork crown and I really can't see that repair making any difference to anything. Forks go on the bike, stem goes in the forks, job done. £180 is a decent price...

  • thanks for shedding light on that, as I said i wasnt trying to lowball anyone, i was just genuinely asking whether the repair is at a spot that gets lots of impact on the track...but thanks for the subtle explanation of bike assembly;)..the price is decent, I agree, but maybe a little out of my price range. good luck with the sale!

  • I don't feel this is really fair, a lot of force goes up the forks and through the steerer.

    Whats not fair?

  • It really is fine...

  • surely its a bit unknown, the weld might last for 20 years, it might also snap going over a pothole no?

  • Does the repair comprise an additional tube out inside the steerer which is preventing the stem from going in? If so it should be strong if done well.
Maybe someone with some top brazing talent could replace the whole steerer if someone was concerned about it? The rest of the fork would be worth it.

531, Nice lugs, campag dropouts, gorgeous fork crown. What's not to like?

If I had 180 notes lying around I'd buy it in a flash, strip it and repaint it. Lovely

  • How long is the steerer tube? I have a spare track fork laying around, thinking I might be able to use it with this frame. I'm not keen on using a repaired fork, but would have to see it myself.

Would you by any chance be willing to ship to Finland?

  • if it comes to this I am happy to buy that fork off you Will

yeh that its how its been done. would take a photo but can't figure out how to get light down the tube to take the photo.

  • I would bet 2000000000 Great British Pounds on this being fine and never failing. Especially if it had another tube inside it!
