  • Oeee, feisty!

  • I have those galli levers and brakes in gold on my hetchins..

  • wow, sweet... I am genuinely sorry not to have slowed down a bit to be able to catch my breath and admire your machine!!

  • Thanks man.....you were flying though!
I thought that I'd catch you up on the downhill bit.......I was wrong there, too!

  • Stedlocks, I have those Galli brakes too - you don't know any sources for hoods either NOS or repro do you?

  • Ivosmo, that is perfect as is :0)

Peter v, is that the new L'eroica bike for 2013? I'll see that one dancing up the hill away from me this year!

Well it looks very nice, but definately is not "perfect" ;) And it could be, just like peter's orange CM :P

  • I think it will be very hard to reproduce the depth of colour and quality shine of your frame, and almost impossible to accurately spraypaint the decals (check out he gold line detailing for instance) like you proposed.

I've been into classic bikes for a couple of years now, and to be honest, many bikes with patina have an advantage in the looks department in my opinion. I'm not talking about damaged paintjobs, but even those can be very attractive.

Sorry mate, I got hold of some Weinmann ones off eBay cheaply....they fit perfectly and look very good, IMHO.....I couldn't find any Galli ones either

Incidentally, my bike is original paint, and some of the decals are a bit flaky, but I would never consider a respray on it....it is only original paint once!

  • I have made a few changes to my Gazelle Champion Mondial Jubile. I have changed the stem back to a Dura-Ace 7400 and put the original wheelset back on. I am just after Dura-Ace post and a nice Flite TI saddle.

  • Here is my Gazelle goldline special.
thought i might just share it on here.

  • Gazelle Champion Mondial. Took about a year to find all the period correct parts, from the correct Campagnolo SR groupset. Still in search of someone who has some SR callipers they'd like to swap for these plain Record ones...

Clearly I've not taken these rubbish phone photos from a good angle because the bike looks considerably less lanky in real life.

Rode it to France and back (with different wheels) for Le Tour last year and it was an absolute joy: performed like a new bike. I think Gazelle knew what they were doing when it came to big frames.

What a pity they're no longer making racing bikes and have no real mention of their history on their modern website.

    Frame: 1981 AB-frame (hence no chrome), 64cm
Wheels: Mavic Monthlery Pro (tubular) on Campagnolo Record hub (36h)
    Cassette: Sachs Maillard(?), 7-speed, 24t-13t
    Tyres: New Vittoria Rally
Seatpost: Campagnolo Super Record (27.2mm, 180mm) + Campagnolo binder bolt
    Saddle: 1987 San Marco Rolls
    Levers: Campagnolo Super Record
**Hoods: **Campagnolo Victory (nicer looking than the gum-coloured SR, no?)
**Brakes: **Campagnolo Nuovo Record/Record (recessed fitting) with Campagnolo pads
Front derailleur: Campagnolo Super Record (clamp-on)
Rear derailleur: Campagnolo Super Record (Pat. 83)
**Shifters: **Campagnolo Super Record (Gazelle panto)
BB: Campagnolo Nuovo Record, 68mm, English threaded (buggered if I'm spending £300 on the SR titanium spindle version)
    Crankset: Campagnolo Super Record, 175mm, 52t-42t (1983)
    Pedals: Campagnolo Superleggari
Cages and straps: Christophe Special (needs Campagnolo upgrade)
    Chain: new SRAM PC-850
Bars: Cinelli Campione Del Mondo, 41cm
    **Stem: **Cinelli
    Headset: Campagnolo Super Record
    Bottle cage: Gazelle (FTW)

  • that's a superb build, beautiful!

Indeed it's a shame that Gazelle has no eye for history on their own site... glad we have fans like erikfox with his steel horse blog and plenty of Gazelle pics/info:

    Waterlooplein?
Not exactly a vintage bike market, but I think you can find anything over there. But I must admit, I've never been there.
Eihallen jumble is not worth a visit. Really.

  • Make a trip to Leeuwarden, to see the bikeshop I'm working :)!

  • Ah many thanks for the advice! I'll check out Waterlooplein, thank you Dutch Cheese - and I shall email you about that seat post bolt tonight!!
in the meantime - if I were tall, and had loads of money - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GAZELLE-Reynolds-531-Campagnolo-Vintage-Track-Bike-58-/360585963508?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53f49927f4

    Cheers again...

  • Wow, lovely track bike. And my size, too.
Just too much $$$ for now.

  • Thought i'd share my current view, since we are talking about Gazelle's.
In front is a late '70s Gazelle AA, first gen. Dura Ace which i'm restoring for the father of a friend.
In the back is a '94 Gazelle Pista wich is getting a different groupset. Now it has a mid '80s Campa Record group, but i think it is to old for this frame (and the Somec needs this group ;) It will be getting a full Dura Ace 7710 group once my BB comes in.

  • +1 for Dura Ace on Gazelles :-)

    nice view, too!

    (you need better whisky though)

  • erm... ?

  • ha!! it works!! - more soon... (650c front being built - yellow brake cable outer only to illustrate routing...)
