Softshell is very versatile.

Wore it today with a summer baselayer and one jersey and i was warm but not hot - still zipped up.
Love that it keeps the wind out.

Sad summers coming, and I won't be able to ride in it.

One for the Full Kit Wankers

Had to try one bit of Sky kit, so bought the long black socks, and they're lovely. Want the hoodie, but too pricey and not sure about the materials after the disappointment of the Transfer Jacket. Speaking of which, going to try a Rab Generator Jacket instead. Or the Generator Stretch. Looks very similar but without the silly fragile Thermoroubaix bits. Good reviews online, and about £80 cheaper than the Transfer. Primaloft ONE and Pertex etc...

RAB stuff is pretty damn toasty... all the guys I know that do oil rig contracts have tons of the stuff. don't think you'll be disappointed.

Rab kit is awesome. All of my down stuff is Rab. The Generator series is pretty much universally hailed as awesome by climbers and everyone I know with one loves it to bits.

Sweet. Will try and find one tomorrow then. Probably the normal version over the Stretch with the side panels and Rab "Eco3D" fill. Got a big hooded Rab Microlight Alpine eVent jacket, but it's way too hot/bulky for cycling. This looks far better.

I have the standard Microlight Alpine and that thing is awesome. Wouldn't even think about cycling in it, though. Also have a Neutrino Plus jacket but, um, yeah... definitely not for riding, that one.

Got caught in a really big rain dump this morning about seven. The rain jacket is very good, and in combination with me pulling my best Hinault face left me feeling relatively happy.
However, the long sleeve city jersey is probably the worst fitting top of theirs I've worn. It's too short at the back (I'm not wearing the wrong size - the arms are fine and I'm a medium across their whole range) and there's a monster seam on the inside that hovers around chest / nipple height and can rub quite a bit. Would give that a miss in the future, though it does look quite nice on...

the rain jacket isn't much cop in fierce hail storms, my arms were stinging! They were dry however. However when the precipitation becomes solid, reach for the softshell

Hardshell gets my vote. Had a big smash in it, my arms and shoulders were grazed, and the jacket was fine, no tears. Strong material, whatever it is.

Rab Generator Jacket is badass. £109 (got online price match in-store, RRP £130) from Snow+Rock with a free Patagonia beanie hat (RRP £35)...

The colour is of more concern

A friend who has just joined but is still in the nursery is selling a good condition navy blue Rapha wind jacket, £90 XXL. Anyone interested?

It's light, and the Primaloft ONE filling (same as used on Rapha's Transfer jacket) is quite thin and breathable. I blasted everyone from Kensington to Homerton, and was fine when I got home. Bit sweaty, but I wouldn't normally cycle that fast with it on.

I'm 6ft4 with a 44 inch chest, and could have gone for L or XL. L was a slimmer fit, but I went for XL for layering underneath. It fits very similar to the Transfer, the main difference being the lack of the stupid Thermoroubaix side panels and cuffs. The Generator Stretch is the nearest equivalent, and apparently more breathable, but with Polartec side panels.

The colour is of more concern

It's available in black and orange too. The blue was the only colour I could find in stock at any Snow+Rock, Cotswold Outdoor, or Ellis Brigham shop in London. Quite like the blue. Bit safer than black on the bike.

Anyway, tonnes better than the Transfer. No velcro ripping up the jacket issues here...
