I used to be "not arsed" about drifting until I went and tried it. It's really fun all day and all night.
Yeah just hanging the back end out gets boring after an hour but linking corners with big angle, big speed, and lots of smoke is so much fun. AND HARD. Really hard. You can't pick up drifting overnight. The guys in series like JDM Allstars, EDC, and to a lesser extent BDC aren't just some kids who picked it up last year. While it's only hit wider public appreciation in the last 5 or so years, the boys I hang out with have been nibbling away for nearly 15 years to get where they are now. It takes a huge amount of car control and skill, I get a bit pissed off when people say stuff like, "Oh drifting can't be hard, I saw Plato knock it out the park after trying it for the first time..." THE FIRST TIME??? HE'S THE OLDEST MAN IN BTCC! Whereas, I have seen some scruffy looking 35 year old man with a beard and baggy jeans manji round the outside of an Elise in a beaten down S13 on Paddock Hill Bend.
