Is there a compelling reason why I shouldn't get this:
for my GF's townbike/shopper? I'm sure the shimano is better but is she going to notice the difference, or more importantly am I going to have to replace it again in a month's time? The cheapo one will save me £20, so I guess, will the shimano last 3 times longer?
I used a similar shitty freewheel like this on my War time shopper / beater bike. Very little miles I only use it around where I live to go to the local cinema, market, etc... It failed after 1 year (the spring inside the freewheel would not take the little tongue back into the teeth, and I was pedaling in the air...) This can be quite dangerous for your GF... You can be in traffic, need to get away from a gap or cross the road quickly and the freewheel doesn't respond when you push on your pedals... You can loose you balance and fall over, it happened to me, and to my friend who was using that bike once... As dangerous as a broken axle on a pedal... Stay away from it.
