  • ends should be with me by early next week with any luck il get em lined up and tagged in place.
as time goes on i can feel the love for some nice moustache drops.. not sure why as i know they are a pain to ride on, but they dont half look the business.

picked up a cinelli quill at the recent velo jumble. might have to pass the time away polishing that..

  • If the primary motivation is aesthetic then go for deep traditional track drops, and run a coaster brake on the back wheel.

That way you can have the clean bars/no brakes look, yet still stop easily whilst also not having to contend with a fixed drivetrain and a low bottom bracket height.

  • Whatever you do, don't get one of these stems:

  • What the hell is that ????? lol

might be a good way to go clean bars no brake look.
not sure where this will fit in the bike stable

just want it to be a selfish pleasure when riding it.
got a set of 27" wheels on route so hopefully shouldnt have massive gaps

  • If you pick up a Cinelli quill, chance are they'll be too big for your moustache handlebar.

If you choose the right length, moustache bar are great to ride.

Unless you're going coaster, don't be fooled by the no brakes no get caught nonsense, if it were your plopping around bicycle, two brakes is a necessary (on a singlespeed).

  • Lastly, you can go normal 700c with big tyres as that'll fill up the clearance with the bonus of being more comfortable, drawback obviously the extra low bottom bracket, but since you're riding singlespeed, it'll be less of a problem, no difference to cruiser bicycle.

  • so what clearance should the BB be on an average track bike??

  • Minimum 11" (280mm) from centre of BB to the floor with 165mm cranks is a pretty common Velodrome limit (i.e. 115mm from the pedal axle to the floor)

  • just measured my road bike (ribble New Sportive) and came up with the following

centre of BB to the floor 265mm
pedal axle to the floor 110mm

should be interesting to give a reading when i eventually get this KC bike rolling to compare !!!!

  • Kiddycranks?

(155mm crank length - you sure about that?)

  • better measure again then ay lol

    but cranks are 172mm

need to get it exact for better comparison

  • centre of BB to the floor 270mm
    pedal axle to floor 100mm

lost 2.5 mm somewhere but its the best i can do.

  • It's the girly chainset you run. You need a man's chainset.

    Matt

  • will that make me fasterer??

  • will that make me fasterer??

    Nope, make very little difference.

  • Yeah it'll make you well fasterererererererer.

    Matt

  • Has this been resolved yet?

  • iv took delivery of some track ends and had frame stripped
iv cut out rear stays and cut out track drop outs to suit
but chickened out of the actual welding so iv sent it to the local welding shop
all being well this frame will be back to me on Thursday and will be back at powder coaters on Friday..

then i can enjoy the fun part of putting it back together and seeing how it looks.
i have both 700c wheels and 27" so see which i prefer

    more to come soon !!!

  • I have a 531 frame here, I quite like. It has ken charlson lightweight specialist sticker on it. Ill post photos later. The deraileur hanger was ground off it. Paint is in that awkward state that its good enough to keep and not bad enough to paint up. We shall see what happens

  • Cool never ever seen another one of his bikes so would be good to see a pic
    Keep us posted fella

  • ok so things have progressed enough to give you guys an update.
i filed and fettled with the frame and managed to get it ready for welding but bottled it at the important part.

turns out so did the welder i taken it to and he decided after a week of holding the frame that its impossible to weld a frame thats already been brazed. so i was a week lost and back to square one.

disgusted i took the frame back and found another welder. "Chadderton Welding" did an awesome job and i am really pleased with the finished frame.
here is a picture if the guy Graham welding in progress.

so after some finishing of the frame here is the finished rear stays now sporting track ends.

i owe a big thanks to Kdregg for kindly donating the track ends and also a big thanks to another member who wants to remain anonymous ,, Kdregg donated the track ends and i got stainless steel face plates from ??? that i also fitted
so not only modded the rear end but also the track ends.

frame goes back to powder on Monday all being well and should be rolling for next week end..

    Fingers Crossed..

  • Is that arc welding?
    Oh la la...

  • Tig

  • after all the stick iv finally silenced the critics lol

  • Not I.

Now that you've welded track ends on, I can't help but wonder why on earth you didn't just buy a track frame in the first place?

    :-/
