now corrected.. to save blushes lol -

So for clarification, just so I am quite clear in my mind here. You are damned if you do do and damned if you don't. Then also damned if you decide to not do and actually do do?
Man my head hurts when I read this thread. I really want to build myself a bike which will really, really please my peers, even if it isn't to my liking, and reading through this thread I just cannot decide what bike I should build to make people like me.
Happy riding!

oh it turns out it dead easy to do matt but what ever you do dont post it on here as some dont want you to, and some will think you thread is all about you !!!!!
after this experience i find its easier to ignore the people who are obviously so far up themselves its untrue.
and just let the build flow, whatever happens just make sure your happy with the way its going,
50% on here hate me whichever way mine build goes lol -

They key with all these is not to be defensive and dismiss the constructive comments about practical issues, but to dismiss instead, the aesthetics driven opinions of the bedwetters.

anyone want any road drop outs from a 50/60's bike ??
-
• #110
Where did you get them from? I was thinking of going against the grain somewhat and converting a track frame to a road bike. I have made some parts which need sticking on, using pipe cleaners and frayed underpants. These drop outs might just be the last part I need to complete the build.
PM me your bank details and all the passwords for logging onto your account and I will make a transfer immediately.

As you claim to come from a car customisation background I'm amazed that you are surprised by the comments. It suggests that perhaps your background is in relatively new cars. Just go onto a classic car forum and describe how you've taken a restorable classic and chopped it. Then come back here to bask in the mild commentary.
There is rarely an issue in taking something beyond restoration and chopping it, unless it really is rare. But despite the fact that you have access to a pool of potential bikes, that pool gets smaller every year, and the number of bikes made by British builders is a smaller part of that.
It would be good if you have indeed listened to the thrust of what people have been saying and take that into consideration in future. Yeah, things could be welded back again, but then it's only original once and good luck in finding the same fittings.

That Corsa is mint! Is it for sale? I love chicken wire on cars, it just looks so right. I hope it has a massive exhaust on it, but only the back box though, as the cost of a full zorst is mental.
I hope it's the three cylinder version, the one that sounds like there is one guy sat in the engine bay hitting a spanner against the inner wing.
I off to scour eGay to find me a new pimped ride.
vroom vroom!

I come from a car resto background too(vw), and there's a pretty even spread of hack merchants along with the purists. Dead meat is fair game but hacking something that's perfectly good as it is gets way more flame than anyone gives out on this forum. My van required one to be completely discected to give parts for mine to be rebuilt. Every time you reduce the pool of 'virgin' material for no reason other than vanity/stubborness it's just kinda rubbish.
I'll say no more on this bike, I hope it gets rebuilt and ridden but I'd be surprised if it looks/rides better than it did before.
The puppy is dead. It might come back from the grave but it won't look pretty.
Let's move on and never speak of it again. -

For fucks sake.
It's a bike, it's not a puppy or a baby or a fucking lost relic. Who gives a shit that its 'British?'.. It's an inanimate object, and being hacked up doesn't make it some kind of martyr.
Just because it was made by some old bastard who smoked a pipe doesn't mean it's of any more significance than your toilet brush which was probably made by some Chinese guy who might have once smoked a pipe.
Can we please move the fuck on.

Bull horns or drops is that a personal choice for me
Or do I have to fit drops lads ?? -
• #122
Whatever fits you best? Are you going to use the drops for climbing/getting out of the wind?
-
• #123
i was dreading putting the wrong ones on...
plan to put some bullhorns on there for now see how i get on
i do like the look of them and they are nice to ride once you get used to the different position -
• #124
Have you brazed the new ends in yet?
There is no right or wrong, it's just your 'look at me' attitude to everything that gets the reaction.
Also, they shouldn't be a different position to the top of your hoods/drops on your road bike, or the bottom of them if you're going lopro. Anything else and you're doing it wrong. -
• #125
^^ I think you should get some nice vintage drops & then chop 'n'flop them to make bulls
That should give you enough clearance I hope.
Make sure that your desired tyres size is enough to clear the brake bridge with those new track end.
