  • saw the green one - but quite fancy getting a new bike and building up from scratch - been reading up MBUK mag has a write up on budget Bikes also looking through Pauls Cycles some massive bargains to be had.

The green one's mine, it's in really nice condition and was only rode for about 6 months, I can be flexible on price if that's an issue

  • Different signpost, more snow. Rons and snow = extended bike handling lesson

Snow at Kingston Blount by adshools, on Flickr

  • ^^Alkali saw your one and was tempted. But trawling the bay last night got a full bike for 450. Forks are a bit rubbish but can up grade when i get paid next.

  • Anybody about for a Swinley ride on Saturday? Have been itching to get out in the snow since it arrived. And those snowy bike porn photos aren't helping! Of course, it's probably going to be all gone by Saturday anyway :(.

  • This is why you need to come on Friday!

  • Is there any point in Swinley+snow? Surely the tree cover means pretty much no snow on the trails.

  • did it a couple of years ago, was actually great fun, but the snow was fresh so we got to ride through it.

There's this thing called work. Some of us have to do it.

  • Is there any point in Swinley+snow? Surely the tree cover means pretty much no snow on the trails.
I've ridden there a few times when the snow has been several inches deep. It quite definitely does get covered some times :). No idea what it's like at the moment though.

  • Is there any point in Swinley now that the majority of trails are shut for the re-build?

  • ^ this

  • is it that bad at the moment?

  • howard, you free on Friday?

  • Nah I'll be somewhere over the Atlantic.

    Last time I was there

    Stickler
    Tank traps
    Seagull

    Were closed.

I read on the fb group that baby maker is now closed.

Situation could have changed now - check the group I guess.

  • Looking to switch over a fork on the bike i managed to get on ebay- thinking of the Rockshok recon silver as its on sale at CRC, read a few reviews
any good?? or are there other forks out there i should be looking at, Budget about £200

  • ^ 120mm travel?

    Just to narrow it down.

  • yes 120mm of travel. thanks

  • I'm honestly not seeing any bargains in the 120mm travel department. A few 100mm.

What fork are you replacing? The recon silver is ok, but it's worth saving for better if you're not desperate to replace.

  • The fork that im replacing is Mantoui Stance, haven't received the bike yet so not sure what year it or what travel.
Thinking 100mm of travel would prob be ok for me as im a beginer to MTB

  • It depends on what amount of travel the frame was designed for really. Lots of frames are suitable for varying travel now.

  • having just had a read up the frame is designed for 150mm fork. The 456 Evo. could get away with 120mm

  • For that frame I'd suggest something more beefy.

£40 out of your budget and a bolt thru axle, but perhaps this..

  • Actually they'd be £215 with Merlin's 10% discount.

  • £215:) good stuff. Thanks for the help

  • There's the Sektor R as well £225. Same damping, but with aluminium steerer. Next up from that is the Revelation £270, which has the motion control damping.
