I think also it's because they don't really evolve - they basically put out the same (excellent) record once every four years, which is great for musicians who know what they like, but it's not really a narrative you can follow as a casual listener - the riffs get a bit more intricate and the lyrics a bit more subtle and that's yer lot. Still a great band tho.

fair points. i am biased, so i would say they have evolved quite a lot over the years, but as you say, to the casual listener, maybe not.

Clutch were ace last night..a good smattering from all their albums and the new stuff sounded great too
