  • The Miche crankset I want to use on my Pomp has a 1/8 chainring, but I think the cogs used on SS freehubs are 3/32. How do people get around this?

Either buy ⅛" sprockets, which are available but less common than 3/32" ones, or just run ⅛" chain on the thin sprockets like everybody else does.

The Miche Primato is 603g which looks hard to beat.

Only if you ignore the 250g to 300g or so that a square taper BB weighs, not to mention the chainring and bolts. 603g sounds like the weight of bare cranks. Plenty of external BB road chainsets can be adapted to single speed duty, and they are nearly all better than Miche Primato. Using a road crank also solves the chain and sprocket problem, since you can just use the inner ring as your single chainring and run 9-speed chain on most 3/32" singlespeed sprockets, all of which saves weight.
