This is not about overlooking or diminishing our sins. It is not about forgetting or discarding the errors of our ways, on the contrary. We must never forget, for remembering and acknowledging our sinful nature and accepting that we are all sinners, is indeed the very essence of humanity. As is the ability to to love and forgive.
Lance could easily kept silent forever, retaining his status, reputation and glory, let alone our admiration and respect. But he chose not to. Think about it. God has given us free will. Lance Armstrong could easily kept on living a lie, but he chose not to. How many of us can honestly say that we would have had the strength and courage to do the same? Not me, that's for sure, and not many of you I should expect.
Lance Armstrong could easily have kept on living a lie, but before Oprah, before us - his fans - and before God, he chose not to. He chose not to, and that, ladies and gentlemen, in my eyes, makes him a true hero. The truth shall set us free.
Am I not disappointed, you may ask? Yes I am. Do I not feel let down? Of course I do, but I too have made mistakes in my life. It's not always easy to forgive, still if any of you are without sin, let them be the first to throw the first stone...
I for one forgive Lance Armstrong; God bless him, and God bless you all.
