Meh, rule no. 5. My first wheel build was with DT Super Comps, which are very similar dimensions to ACI Alpinas. OK, recommending Sapim Lasers or DT Revos for a first-timer might be a bit harsh, but I've never found Alpinas to be too bad when it comes to wind up. OK, I've only built one wheel with Alpinas, but I certainly don't remember it being an issue.
Besides, the DT Comps you recommended are 2.0/1.8/2.0 (in metric). The Alpinas are 2.0/1.7/2.0. Hardly going to make that much difference.
