I wouldn't suggest buying new. A tenner is the most i'd pay on here for a standard chainring.
And going from 53 to 48 is only 10%, so if you're crossing over to the 21 sprocket, changing the ring is only going to move you up 1 cog to the 19. 48/19 is actually 0.1% higher than 53/21
