I'd strongly advise against it, but then I'd advise anyone who hasn't been running for a few years against running a marathon, I jumped into one too quickly (6 months after my first half) and despite a pretty good adherence to a beginners training schedule really struggled on the day and it put me off running for a long time.
To my mind when you reach the half way point in a marathon you're about 1/3 of the way in terms of physical exertion and pain.
