For canon 50mm lenses, the 1.8 is considered one of the best budget lenses. I used it for a few weeks, loved the results but didn't like using it so got the 1.4 instead. If you shoot a lot of low light the 1.4 can be worth the extra monies, the 1.2 is a fuckload more monies and a beast of a lens, though very nice, but not worth it if you ask me.

image quality is going to be better using a rebel
I'd have to disagree with this. Having had various crop cameras, one of them being a 550D I can say none of them come even close to the image quality on my 5D.

5Dmk1 is a great camera, loved mine but as we'll says, it's noisy at high iso. I miss mine sometimes, but its quite a chunky camera, esp with battery grip. Lovely to shoot full frame though.

I have a GF1 which I love but am going on a few trips this year that I want to document and not sure the GF1 will give me what I need.

Nice! X100s looks like win.

5D mkI noisey at high ISO? I thought it was decent upto 1600.

Are Sigma's 20mm and 24mm f/1.8s any good? There seem to be mixed reviews.

It's noisy compared to more recent cameras. The noise is nice though, similar to film grain

Exactly kboy - similar to film grain as in very easy to put up with.

^ and ^^ + lots
The 5D is noisy above about iso640 (compared to modestly modern stuff) but and it's a big but, it's about the nicest noise you'll get from a DSLR.
That from the Epson R-D1 is the only noise I've seen that more closely resembles grain.

I've been using the 5D a lot more recently I just love how it feels in the hand too. Reminds me of film cameras so much.
The only camera I liked more than this was my dad's Minolta X300. Would be fantastic if I could move his lenses over to 5d - anyone know if that's possible?

Plus you're only losing 1 stop in lens aperture so it won't make much difference in speed.

I now really want a 35mm... Need to get some monies together... Or buy more scratch cards.
What does everyone think about fisheyes? -
• #3017
Good but the novelty will wear off. Unless you've got an application where you'll be relying on it a lot.

Also not sure whether you'll want to upgrade to a full frame sensor eventually (some people don't)
If you don't look at the sigma 30mm 1.4?(I think)

Is the 5D MkII much better than the MkI? I'd like a full frame camera but don't really want to fork out a massive amount. I've looked at some shots taken on the MK1 and have been impressed but don't have any real world experience with either camera?
If you are travelling take a look at the Sony NEX-7. Really nice camera in a compact form. Also snap sort.com is a great site for comparing cameras in detail.

Might have to sell the x100 and see if I can find some money somewhere :P

I can't see anything about it that make me want to sell my X100 for the X100s IMO.
The new X20 however look to be a great improvement over the original X10 (datas display on viewfinder), price appear to be £600, but I'm hoping it'll be £500 in a couple weeks or month.

Also great time to bargain buy X100

I think the same about fisheyes, but it doesn't stop me from wanting one. Lulz
Thanks a bunch for the link! I had a think and I don't really have any uses for anything majorly wide tbh. A 30 or 35 will do me well for street photography (as I can't afford a 24mm) and the large apertures are great too.
I love this thread. Thanks for the helpful input eveybody.

^^^ Super fast focusing? Same (but better) chip thingy as the xpro?
(I think I just like new things)

This... I bought mine off Photoben on here and it's a love hate relationship. I loved it at first but sometimes there are shots that I think will look good and then I think the fisheye has ruined it when I get look at them later. I guess this is as much about my lack of skill as anything but my enthusiasm for the lens certainly waxes and wanes.
They're good but noisy at high ISOs. You'll still get nice dof etc but basic image quality is going to be better using a rebel / xxxd.
