  • Good Evening.

I am really keen to get more mileage in, and currently I feel only having fixed bikes restricts me in doing so, somewhat.

I couldn't afford to buy a brand new bike that I liked. The only OTP bikes I'd even consider started at about a grand and that's not in reach at all.

Instead, I decided that I'd get a fix for my Italian steel craving whilst at the same time ending up with a sweeeeeeeeeeeet ride. The only problem being is that I am incredibly impatient. So taking this avenue was a difficult choice.

This is what I ended up with:

Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra in 7-Eleven team colours. SLX tubing of course. Condition is not fantastic, but it wasn't advertised as such and it was a bit of a steal to be perfectly honest.

For the most part, I'd like to build it up with mid 90s to early 2000s Campag, rather than Campag of the correct era, mainly because I don't really want to use downtube shifters, or have uncomfortable hoods.

Something similar to this Ti Record groupset, but not in Ti would be absolutely perfect, I think:

Wheel wise, I am not sure about hubs yet, but I expect I'll lace them to TB14s.

However, as mentioned above, budget restricts parts buying and currently I don't have much movement cash wise, therefore cannot really buy anything at all for it! I'd quite like to have him built up by the spring though.

    Will update in due course.

  • Nice!

I'm extremely impatient at building bikes, make sure you buy tyres and tubes last so you're not tempted to even try it out until it's fully done.

  • Nice frame, and who needs enemies with friends like Eddy the cannibal Merckx!

  • Looks good JB. Glad to see you've rescued it from any potential puppy killers.

  • Risers and a deep v rear, front spok

    Would be an awesome conversion

  • 90's Athena would look great on this. Make Apollo an offer he cant refuse

  • Wish that shit had been sold to me. You poo. I've already told him that I wanted it. I think Record would look more bosshog, as above. If I had 600 notes I would, without a doubt, put an offer in right now.

  • great frame man

athena cranks are so much sexier than those Ti record ones...

  • also, measure the spacing! if it is 126mm or 130mm you could have a rideable bike before monday.. if you make me an offer I can't refuse :D

    VVV are right

  • Don't do something we'll all regret aspokoll

  • Apollo, you cant take apart the rourke! the components couldnt be more perfect!

  • I'd build it with more modern components if it was me.

dan, Erik J, XH all have classic steel frames with modern/fairly modern components and they look mint. Although you know, as long as the contact points are comfy it should be fine.

    Building the wheels yourself?

  • Not sure, not sure if I can afford to keep now :-(

  • ^
O rly? perhaps i should replace the ribble.....

  • JB you have become broke in a week?

  • Risers and a deep v rear, front spok

    Would be an awesome conversion

This is an EM Corsa Extra.

  • JB you have become broke in a week?

Not sure. Probably shouldn't have purchased it in the first place and our first heating and electricity bill just came through :-(

Hopefully won't have to sell Eddy though.

  • ouch about the bills, sell the ill fitting wall ornament instead

  • It fits. I'd rather keep the Panasonic than the Merckx if one had to go. Though Panny is worth more. I don't want to get rid of it to pay bills.

  • Ow much do you want for it?

  • IF I were to sell it, 285 which is what I paid. But I'll see if I can sell the Leader first.

  • It fits the space above the fireplace.

    ok.

  • Shit, I did have to rep you for that one.

  • dibs if you have to sell it (what's the size?)
