Back to mudguards...How did most fit the front? Looks like the top mounting is designed to fit at the front of the fork (between fork and caliper brake). Fitted in that position, looks like there'd be no need to cut the stays. The hole on the pomp is at the back of the fork, which pushed the guard out a few cms.
I abandoned the fitting after realising I'd have the cut the stays and I have no tools (saw/file), I'd be best to get secu-clips for the rear too plus I may as well get the top of the rear guard drilled if I'm doing it properly. Better be worth it...
