Tbh if I wasn't trying to wedge myself into a Christmas spirit like a large cockerel into a young beaver I'd be all over the cunt vibe. As it is it's a Christmas present and I look forward to the yellow monstrosity that will inevitably arise

That was a poor penis metaphor I admit

underestimated how huge 28c gators are in comparison to a 28c rando

waffa fin...

B0N0R, just the man to ask then, how do you compare the 28c Gator' to the Rando'? (did you wear out the Rando' already??)
Seriously, feel free to give a detailed review, like how it is to skid on, grip, and so on...

After a really long waiting time (+7months), and a lot of ideas taken from this forum, I`m able to upload a picture of my lastest, and almost finished, project:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Sorry for the crappy ipad picture.
I know I`m short and shaped like an orangutan, ST is 48cm and TT is 53.5cm, but I like to think of myself as the Lio Messi type.
I took this pic before I install the mtb clipless pedals and maybe, depends if I use this bike as my commuter or not, a front brake. -

Very tasty ^

little update on the Steamroller.
Just ordered a inline seat post, wanting to lighten the wheels a bit with Mavic open pro rims and 28c Conti' Gatorskins, would be about 3/4 of the weight of what i have now i think, so would be worth the bother.
Still thinking a lot about the brother steel track, would pretty much just swap the frame over.

I'm just cleaning up my own CP ready to paint...

Looking into building up a light offroad/towpath bike. It needs to be usable on-road too. So far the Dolan FXE is looking good, any other frames with suitable characteristics?
Ideally, I'd get a Steamroller but they're out my budget unfortunately... -

You know what. I have a MTB, and how often do I use that for off-road. Why would I use a SS Path bike anymore? I reckon I'm really looking for a fixed commuter/training bike...
For that an FXE right fits the bill... -

Why would I use a SS Path bike anymore?
Because it's nicer than an MTB on the tarmac sections which lead to the gravel paths. Get a FXE if you fancy one, but a Pompino will do everything a FXE does and has room for tyres which let you take any path which takes your fancy, and the frame is only a pound heavier. I have a pure road fixed bike and an MTB, but the Pompetamine gets taken out more than both combined because the marginal loss of speed compared with a proper road bike is easily offset by taking a short cut across the fields, and the marginal loss of off road attack compared with a proper MTB is easily offset by being much faster on the smooth bits, tarmac or prepared bike paths.

Hmm, the real issue is that I can't afford to maintain, nor do I have space for, 3 bikes. I have been limited by the parents to 2. So the MTB would probably go in any case. Although to be perfectly honest, I've been riding my 23c road bike down the worst maintained towpaths I've seen in a while, so anything will feel like heaven in comparison... PLUS FXEs are just sexy...

• #70693
yes chris! that will be awesome
Cheers Fred! It would be more awesome if I hadn't just found a bulge in the downtube which was obviously caused by a front end impact - explaining the lack of original forks.
It's only small so I suspect it will be fine, but lesson learnt - NEVER buy a frame missing original forks, 90% of the time they will be lost due to crash damage...

a clearer pic of that '70's project
you can see the frame will need a make over
I had the groupset bar the rd
II'll polish what needs doing and buff the rest, calipers and ds crank arm seem unusual
3ttt stem bar combo, and vintage 3ttt ribbon -

-

Its a 64cm seat tube c-c and 60cm c-c top.
I'm 2m and carry 110kg
Just a bit, better off with some cheap n' cheerful parts and risers.
