@ absurdbird, I agree there is an old fashioned appeal visually, but I don't think the tension vs suspension forces are great enough that there's a benefit to having a spacer hanger.
More to the point there are two major benefits; 1) cable routing, and 2) reducing brake judder.
There's no reason I can't have a spacer mounted one, I'd just prefer to have a fork mounted one. I'm going to have another look at the fork and see if it can be drilled. It's second hand so no warrenty will be valid anyway.
