She is currently at home and undergoing rehabilitation. The car that hit her, forensics indicate, was travelling in excess of 70mph at the moment of impact but, presumably faster when it started to brake. She is so luckily to be alive.
jeez that's terrible, hope she is recovering well both physically as well as mentally. getting hit from behind is awful.
just makes me realise how lucky i've been having cycled for thousands of km's round SE asia, as well as UK and Ireland having done LEJOG twice on A roads and never have any incidents like this.
jeez hope she's ok

She is a remarkable young woman. Mentally as strong as can be. Physically she has huge way to go.

Best wishes to her for a full recovery. I've ridden that course, and I found it a slightly nerve-wracking experience. Won't be going back, despite the potential for PBs.

I received the WLCA BAR trophy today. First awarded in 1914!
Didn't know it existed until a couple of days ago when Malc from Westerley put my name forward.Disappointing attendance from the member clubs though with lots of trophies going unclaimed as riders or club reps weren't there. So much history and a traditional social scene that seems to be disappearing as everyone focuses on racing and nothing else. I still find it fascinating compared to Oz race culture and I'm sure you'll regret it when it has gone.
Eileen Sheridan delivered a great talk about some of her record setting (LEJOG, 1000 miles) and race history and autographed my copy of Wonder Wheels. She's still lovely and enthusiastic at 89!

Well done Hippy
Our club has lots of pots as well - but not every one seems to want to collect them
And Eileen Sheridan as well! Just think that you can tell your children you met her.
-
• #3557
I didn't get to collect the ones from Wales so this was a nice bonus.
LEJOG attempt in the future? :)
-
• #3558
She looked amazing on a bike. What a fantastic pedaller.
-
• #3559
Her lowest gear for LEJOG was a 71" or so, on a 4 speed. Highest was 92" which she said she rarely used.

I believe this is the only photograph of Eileen Sheridan where she is not smiling.
Frank Southall (back to camera, holding coat), a great rider, but perhaps not quite so great as a manager, has just told Eileen that her that her record breaking Land's End to London ride has been disallowed on the grounds that there was pre-publicity, or to put it another way, she's just ridden 250 hard miles for nothing.
All other pictures of her show her wonderful smile - which she could maintain under extremely arduous conditions, for example riding the last few miles to John O' Groats into a head wind.
As Hippy shows, it is almost impossible to meet her without falling under her spell.

Hippy, Congratulations on your WLCA Best All Rounder victory. I thought you might do well this year, but you have exceeded my expectations.
Your post puts succinctly much of what I've been trying to say on this forum. Club life is being eroded, and it will be a great pity if it disappears.
For my part, I don't quite see the problem as an obsession with racing, particularly as the number of competitive rides is tending to decrease. However there certainly is a problem with an unprecedented influx of newcomers into the sport, which at club level is being run by elderly pensioners.
I hope this BAR win may give a little impetus to the lfgss BAR which got off to a rather weak start this year. There are, one way and another, quite a number of BAR's in existence: the WLCA competition is a good one to win, but it is one among many. This is the reason that I believe the forum BAR should be primarily for rides done on single gears, since it would be the characteristic that would give it a reason to exist.

Yup she is something special and I can't think of a pic with her NOT smiling in some particularly hideous weather ...
I like the idea of the famous Hippy telling his grandchildren about the famous Eileen! -

Mddc_tester, going to the boxing day 10 again? Looks like I'll be Maidenhead for Christmas again.

I expect so, but no Lindt bears this year.

Where do I sign?
-
• #3570
For an English frame or for the MDCC Boxing day 10? For the latter, Westacott Way, first rider at 10:30 so aim to get there by 10:15
-
• #3571
Do you have the address for the Boxing day 10 please?
-
• #3572
Entry on the line at Westacott Way. If you're sat-navving, SL6 3QH is at the end of the road so you'll drive past the start and the signing-on table. If you're riding something with rough-stuff capabilities, we're at the crossing of National Cycle Route 4 and Westacott Way.

Thanks! Suspect it maybe bit far out for me, unless anyone is riding out or driving from Brixton way

Well done Hippy, we had Sean Yates at our Club Dinner he did a Q&A session that worked well, he really is a down to earth bloke :)

EPO, CERA and bloods.
I think she was doing a 10 mile TT. Likely to be a dual carriageway.
