Very confusingly written. In chronological order:
A Volkswagen crashed into a tree, and an Audi stopped too. Two police approached and the Audi drove off. For a time it was thought (by the police?) that the Audi had hit the Volkswagen. Not clear if the police spoke to the Audi driver before he drove off. The police stayed with the injured Volkswagen driver.
A little later the Audi driver then crashed into a man and a woman. The driver of the Audi abandoned his car and left before police arrived at the second scene. No arrests have been made, but it's not stated whether the police want to arrest the Audi driver (i'd guess they do). The woman died and the man is critically injured.
They are now doing a post mortem on the woman. Not sure why this is the point that gets the headline.
