Yes, but the point is with a die, you can buy them 2nd hand for peanuts.
The only downfall with a die is that you might find it hard to start the cut off right, so the trick would be to cut a longer thread than needed, then trim off to the desired length.
I am pretty resourceful and would probably fashion a jig to keep everything in true.
