Good point. What about guards incase the chain jumps off?

What I would recommend is finding a gear ratio that allows you to run the tensioner in the pushing up position, rather than the pushing down you currently have.
Like this..
This would give you a better chain wrap around the cog & has the added bonus of looking a bit tidier too.
